another gun thread (non political though)
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:46:56 PM »
2 questions for you pistol shooters out there. 1st and most important is this, do any of you shoot a cz-52 (513) and if you own one, do you have any parts you might be talked into  parting with? i need a new barrel (or a 9mm conversion) and the aftermarket machined firing pin as the originals are very fragile and i've snapped another one. second question is, does anyone here have any experience with the taurus version of the 1911-a1? i've seen good reviews in magazines but i'd rather hear that from any owners. i want another 1911 but i'm not about to pay the prices Colt and even Springfield are charging now.  sorry ahead of time for anyone that might get offended by this post. i'll delete if the mods want me to.

the problem with the taurus is that most gunsmiths don't like to work on them
most like the colt and springfield
check with the local smith in your area

Too bad you don't live near me.
I know a good gunsmith.

But anyways.... have you though of going to the shooting range, and seeing who the benchrest shooters are using?
Those guys doing long range competitive shooting tournaments are good sources of who is a good gun smith, and who to avoid.

Not only that, but the gunsmith's quality of workmanship REALLY shows up on guns used for long distance competitions.
Talk to the guys in the top 10 if you can.

I find this is true when you get away from the popular name brands. That is why I went for a Glock, Colt, and Ruger.

Just a note since gun owners might pop into this thread.  With the changing of the politicians and the potential for the laws to change, there's a new forum starting to help responsible citizens keep our guns.  Hopefully a large grass roots effort can do more than the NRA lobbyists.

I really like the Springfield Armory products.  They are expensive, but seem to be high quality (without owning one).  I am thinking about the M1A.

the last 1911 i owned was a springfield, it had the same problem colt 1911's do, after firing 200-300 rounds the slide starts getting loose and you need to squeeze it back to tighten up the action. great shooting guns but that is a problem they have. i understand the taurus pt1911 has done away with that problem. that and theyre about 200 dollars less than a springfield and 300 less than a colt.

Well the Boys from Brazil....

I've seen many of thier products and shot a few. Seemed like good products at a reasonable price.

Since you mentioned carry.......How Much is too much?

The reason most smiths concentrate on 1911 Clones is volume...thier the most popular and what everyone wants tuned.

Heaps of aftermarket parts available....which is something to consider if you want to make mods to suit your needs.

Sights, grips, safety's  etc will all be cheaper and more plentiful for the 1911 clone's.....

You're welcome.  It's being circulated on gun forums and I figured I'd post here for anyone interested that isn't on any of those forums.

I'm hoping it turns out to be something good where other political issues get left at the door and remains focused on 2nd amendment issues.

I still haven't received the activation email yet, so I assume they're still working on building it.
