Cam Chain question on a CB400f
«

Looking at buying a CB400f that evidently broke its cam chain. I can't imagine that doing the crankcases any good. Has anyone seen what this does to the engine. I was a Honda mechanic many many moons ago and never saw an engine lose its cam chain. The bike from the pics I've seen looks ok although I haven't seen the exhaust yet. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

Well I believe the engine is an interference engine, so it probably lunched one or more valves. I've heard of the 400F camchains stretching like "knicker-elastic", but never of one snapping.
I'd think a full rebuild is in order at the very least.

Thanks for the input Groovie, I think I'll pass on the scoot. Heck I got a 74 RD350 I just picked up to restore guess I ought to just get that one done, after I finish up the 70 CL350 I'm redoing right now.

Good luck on the Yammie!!! I LOVE two-strokes. Should be awesome when you're done.

Yeah I'm going to keep the RD stock appearing, other than chambers but want to make a go fast out of it. It amazing what they are doing with 2 strokes these days. Still want to pick up a 350/400 four though, what a sweetheart of an engine.
