Original Owner?
« on: September 28, 2005, 11:59:41 AM »
Just wondered if anyone had met the original (i.e. first) owner of their bike (or perhaps you are the original owner!). There must be some interesting stories to tell.
It'd be nice to find out what people thought of their bikes when they were brand new. It's interesting reading contempory "cycle world" road tests etc but it's different hearing peoples real stories! :)

I contacted the original ower of my bike who was pretty surprised that the bike has been exported to the UK!! (read my story at the link below if you're interested).

My CB750K1 was my ticket to travel. I got it when I was 17. Trips might go anywhere the road went. Some of the interstates were so new I think I was the first one to use them. Somewhere in this website (my old posts??) is a story about my buddy and I and the Yellowstone bears. I'll be reading your story.

When I bought a 1950 harley panhead in 1974, I got a call one night from the original owner, Said the saw the second owner (who I bought it from) and wanted to know if I was going to "butcher" it. I told him I was going to restore it to original (this was the end of the chopper era) and he told me that when he bought it new in March, 1950 , he left for Daytona with 12 miles on it. Rode US 250 ( 2 lane) from Northern Ohio. Said it was 27 degrees when he left and rode 1200 miles in 3 days. A year later when it was finished, I rode to his house and offered him the keys. When he came back, he turned off the key and said "you never forget your first new bike or your first piece of ass" Gave me pictures when it was new, original literature, and the original sales order. When he died about 15 yrs ago, I went to the calling hours and his widiw said he talked about that for weeks. Sold the pan in 1995 to some yuppie with more dollars than sense.

i have a 1972 750 has been in my family since it was new.my brother actually purchased it new,but he did not ride much so it was pretty much mine.i still have this bike and at present with the price of gas,i am rideing it 70 miles per day to work(weather permitting).my father had it for around 10 years he did not ride it much either, then he had a stroke which stopped him completely.well i broke it out about 8 months ago,it was in pretty sad shape rust in the tank, carbs in bad shape, chrome had rust all over it,bad tires, sprocket and chain rusted, swing arm bushings shot.well to make a long story short she is back with us in great shape now.i work out of town so i dont get home much.next time i am at home i will post some pictures.still original paint not as shiny as some bikes i see on this site, patched seat but shes mine and runs like a dream.all in all over the past few months i have her in pretty good shape.had 17400 miles on it when i started restoreing now have 23500 and running great. pardon the bad grammar just a poor old arkansas hillbilly rambling.

ps $1300 bucks off the showroom floor---had my wife email me a picture taken 09/25/05
