Here's what I got.....
Steve Tonkin, a retired racer, concentrates on older sporting machinery, but has recently completed a modern Gold Star concept bike. The new machine, the Tempest, uses a John Cronshaw supplied ABSAF 500cc motor housed in a Tichmarsh-built Seely MkIII frame, and is equipped with Ceriani forks, a Seely front disc brake, and a BSA conical rear hub. The engine is built to modern day specification and utilizes much in the way of aftermarket equipment that Steve supplies. A new Amal GP carburetor, a Nigel Eyre Bower (NEB) belt drive primary transmission system complete with NEB clutch, and a five-speed gearbox conversion all come from Steve's comprehensive stores. The gearbox conversion, designed by Graham Dyson of Nova Racing, Crowland, Lincolnshire, who also manufactures all the components, has been a good line and to date some 100 kits have been sold, of which the vast majority are in use on roadsters instead of racing machines.
The Tempest is available from Steve Tonkin Restorations, to any specification the customer cares to give, and this includes a variety of engine bore and stroke measurements and power outputs, together with any combination of drums or discs in the braking department. The Tempest is a modern concept of the traditional Gold Star, that mixes the old with the new, and one item that will please the true enthusiast is the use of an upswept and cranked track silencer, complete with the obligatory twitter.
