Valve noise
« on: November 13, 2008, 06:14:37 PM »
How loud should the valves be? Should i be able to hear them at least a little or a lot or somewhere in between?
I did my valves and they where really tight, you couldnt hear them at all. I looked at my plugs and one was sooty so i adjusted my valves to see if they where opening properly. After i finished the valves it started up better and has more lower end. They just seem a bit loud.
I have an xr250 it makes valve noise but it doesnt have 8 valves :).

The bike is a 74 550

You should expect some valve noise. If you can't hear them, something is wrong.

Going by "they were really tight" ... You are using feeler gauges, correct?

Ya i believe so. I made a couple bent by heating them up. Much easier to use. No where in town sells bent ones in the size i needed. Makes it easier to get down in side so your not flexing the gauge.
