Coil question
« on: November 13, 2008, 03:24:28 PM »
Someone recently gave me some extra parts for my 750 and one of the items happened to be a set of coils.  They are factory coils (i think) they say TEK on them, but seemed to have screw on plug wires.  Were these factory or aftermarket?  Either way are these ok coils or are they junk, plus if there ok can I still get new wires for them (one is missing a boot)?

Any info would really be helpful. :)

If the wires are detachable you can replace them with copper core wire. You can also just replace the boot. If they are coils from a later model Honda they could have lower ohms, which give a hotter spark but also put more of a drain on the electrical system unless you also install resistors with them. I have 3-ohm coils from an early 80s VT750 on my K0 750, but I also installed a Hondaman ignition and Hondaman resistors to save the points and decrease draw on my electrical system.
