THX1138
« on: December 22, 2008, 04:36:02 PM »
I have this in my Net Flix queue. Note and try to identify the motorcycles in this one! I think the car is one of my favorite racers, the Lola T70. Although at first with its white paint and bigger arse mistook it for a chaparral... another beautiful piece of machinery.

Picked this up off of Wikipedia.

"The chase scene featured Lola T70 Mk.IIIs with dummy turbine engines racing against Yamaha TA125/250cc 2-stroke race replica motorcycles through two San Francisco Bay Area automotive tunnels: the Caldecott Tunnel between Oakland and Orinda, and the underwater Posey Tube between Oakland and Alameda."

The car ID is easy but still wonder about the bikes. Given their tiny size though I'd be inclined to believe Wiki.

I see from the discussion that Lucas screwed up the DVD release with added CGI.  Too bad.  It was a great flick as it was.

Yeah he tends to do that doesn't he? I'm thinking of getting the VHS and burning to DVD. The tape quality might add to the 70's viewing experience.

On the other hand I'm pretty sure someday a DVD release of the original will come out.

Love that movie.
Had no idea they re-worked it. actually didn't think it would make it to dvd.
Very few people I know have seen it.

I love the line:
"but disillusionment occurs at 4.5"

Just checked wikkapedia, and didn't realize that "thx1138" is used in reference in so many different films.

I knew it was on Miliner's '32 as his plate number but like you didn't realize the pervasiveness.

This was Ford playing THX 1138, at least that's what Lucas wants us to think, but it could have been Duvall.

One of my favorite movies.  I saw this several times on the big screen before the advent of the VHS tape that eventually  killed off the chance of seeing anything but current movies in the theater.  I love the scene where THX seeks guidance from Omm in the "telephone" booth.
