Hello everyone,
My name is Bryan and I'm not only new to this forum but just got my cycle endorsement (finally) this past summer.
To let everyone know why Im here, in October of 2008 my father gave me his 1974 Honda CB750K4 with 10874 original miles on it. The bike was drained of gas and has been stored in a dry garage for 23 years. He bought it brand new in 1974. He changed the handlebars, new blue paint (1976) and put on a 16 inch rear wheel back in late 70's.
I was three years old when he brought the bike home. I remember going for rides on it later on as a kid and I loved it. He said the Honda CB750 was 'THE BIKE' to own back then.
I decided to not necessarily restore it but change out many of the old parts with new ones and make some cosmetic changes...ie new handlebars, seat, paint, exhaust, etc.
After all these years sitting and some minor maintenance we were able to fire it up with no problems.
Since then I ordered about $800 in original Honda parts so far...adds up quick!
I tried to attach the only pic I have so far but the pic is too large (916 KB) and Im only allowed 256 KB. I'll work on getting a smaller size pic to post soon. I removed the gas tank to have it acid washed and re-coated on the inside. The gas tank is in great shape...no rust on the outside just some varnishing and minor rust on the inside.
My father coated the chrome with a very small amount of oil and the good news is there is no rust on the fenders and just surface rust on the wheels. The seat frame is still the original one that came with the bike and is in excellent condition. There are no tears on the seat but I would like to have it lowered in front and back and re-upholstered with new material.
Since the pic I began to strip it down to repaint the frame and clean out the carbs among other things.
I look forward to this winter / spring project and I plan on having it completely reading to go in April / May of 2009.
I look forward to interacting with many of you on my new journey and posting the completed pics when all said and done.
Take care,
Bryan
