Yea ... True enough. You rarely see old CB's actually on the road. I know there is a bunch of them in the area. You just don't see them on the road.

Get this......
Last weekend there was a motorcycle event up the road from me. It was basically the motorcycle cops from various cities running an extremely tight obstacle course for the best time. So you have Honda ST 1300, BMW's, Harley's. For the most part all the Harley's were dragging something, but these guys were really quit good.

Anyway three of us ride up there together from my house.

1st friend is on a 2006 Ironhorse custom... Chrome everything and about $40,000.00
2nd friend is on a 2008 Kawasaki ZX10
Me ... I'm on the 1976 Honda CB 125s you see in the Avatar

I was talking to friend 1 about which bike would draw the most attention. His Iron horse or my CB... He could not consider the fact that someone might be more interested in the CB, than the Iron Horse. You have to see the Horse. Everything is chrome!

Anyway we pull up to the event and park. Lots of bikes there. Immediately 2 guys walk our way, walk past the Iron Horse and start admiring the CB 125S. <GRIN> The friend on the Iron Horse is going crazy...

I'm in Fort Worth and I've got four SOHCs, among others.  Ride them all the time.  I've got a '76 750F1 as a daily rider, and I make it a point to ride my Sandcast or 400F all the time.

Right now I'm in Iraq, but I'll be back next month.  Maybe we should organize a "D/FW SOHC Crew" meetup somewhere.  I'd be down with it.

I can relate to the people paying attention to the old bikes in lieu of new ones.  I especially get it on the 400F.  You wouldn't BELIEVE the effect that swoopy 4-into-1 has on people!

I have not seen one up here in McKinney either.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Neither do I!!!  :D :D

Actually I feel pretty well complete.  Each one fills a niche and while there is no "theme" to my collection, I love each one.  I thought about selling some and going with a common theme, (IE: sell the 750s and get a VFR400 and CBR400RR for a "400 Collection" since 400cc bikes are my hands-down favorites), but in the end, I like the ones I have too much.

I know there has to be a bigger D/FW SOHC presence here, I've seen more postings by Metroplex folks.  I think we could get a nice little gathering together.  What's a nice centralized location for everyone?

Hey you guys get a ride going sometime, give me a little bit of lead time and I'd like to join you. I got my 73 CB750 earlier this year and I've already put close to 3000 miles on it tooling around here in SE New Mexico. Although I did just go scootering with some buddies in the Hill County (Bandera/Kerrville) area a couple of weeks ago.

Damn Ghoulie,

You're younger than I am and you've got how many bikes? You've got it in a bad way man.  I like the fact you've got something different in those Hodakas.  Wombat, LOL.
Speaking of get togethers, there's a (probably going to be) small car show in Forney on Saturday Nov. 15th.  I'm going to take my 550 just to give people something different to look at.  It isn't perfect, but it's got enough flash to get noticed.  If last Sunday's downtown Forney show was any indicator, it'll give folks some good looking curves to oogle instead of lowriders with 13's or 24's.
If anyone's interested I'll post some more details. ;D

Your house, lol.

Actually, I'm not opposed to that.  I live in an airplane hangar on a small airfield and it's basically a huge workshop/garage for all my bikes, cars and other projects.  Between my bikes and cars and my brother's bikes and cars, it resembles a dealership more than a garage!

Open the main door, do up some BBQ, and the streets on the airport are not roads but "taxiways" for aircraft, so we can tear around there (within reason), and it's no big deal.

I'll be back in mid-to-late December, but I can see doing something either in the months that follow, or in the Spring when it warms up.

Thats the one. Normally I would never pay $500.00 for a none running unit with no title. Anyway I called the guy and ask him to send me full pics. When I saw them. I instantly set about convincing him that the money was as good as in his pocket, and begged him to hold it for me and remove from CL until I could get over there.

It's now in my garage. I really have no intentions of keeping it. I do expect to make $1000.00 to $1500.00 on it.

That sucks about the wife.  We ARE located at Hicks, and love it to death.  My dad built the hangar, and my mom loves it, and then we built a hangar next door, which I have laid claim to, and we're working out a deal.  My fiancee LOVES living in the hangar.  Thinks it's awesome.

Depends on how you build it though.  Some guys really keep the "Industrial" look and feel about it, but we built a huge loft in it that is so insulated and quiet, and is laid out so that you think you are in a house.  It's actually more like a 3200 sq/ft house with an attached 10,000 sq/ft garage.

Well,  I look forward to you getting back.  My buddies and I have breakfast at Hicks sometimes on Sundays when our regular place is closed (the joint at Hicks doesn't have the best food though).   It will be cool to find another old Honda rider down the street.

How long have you been eating at the Concho?  I eat there all the time and while the food used to be better (totally awesome actually), it's slipped lately.  I'm surprised you never saw me running around the field on one of my CBs, or saw one parked at the Concho.

I'll definitely keep y'all advised on my return and once I bring the bikes out of hibernation, (not looking forward to that one), we'll run around.

Oh, and I'm a HUGE fan of Cussler and Pitt.  While my fleet can't begin to approach his, it makes me happy.
