"0" ring chain attaching
« on: November 14, 2008, 01:41:05 PM »
I've lashed out and bought a flash new $169 "O"ring chain for my CB650C Custom and finding it 6 inches too long got the shop to cut it back for me.
I expected to find in the little connector package a standard clip to secure the chain ends but there is this strange requires rivets set up.
What exactly do I need to "rivet" this chain into place (yes I ahve checked the FAQ's) or is it easier to just go back and get the standard connector and clip which I'm used to?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Hold the bus, after much digging I found the answer, the tool used to rivet chains together is about as expensive as the chain its self so unless I'm going to be doing a lot of chains I wont bother.
I'll skip back to the shop and get a standard connector for "O" ring chains.

Many guys here do not like the clip as there has been instances of the clip coming off at high speed...not a good thing.  My dealer lets me use his chain rivet flairing tool since I buy all my stuff from him.  Now if you did not buy your chain from the dealer he probably will not let you use his tool.  Good luck with it.

Bought chain from Suzuki dealer, may get them to do the rivet thing as I have bought quite a bit of stuff off them lately.

I have never had a master link come off just keep up on the o-ring chain maintenence and i think being able to remove the chain for cleaning does alot more for the chain life IMO.
