oil leak at pressure guage
« on: September 25, 2005, 10:48:03 AM »
I was going to replace the seal at the gear shift selector shaft, which is dried out and impossible to get off, but not the source of my leak.  I couldn't get the gear shift selector seal off, so turned on the bike to see how bad the leak was with a slightly gouged seal from my screwdriver.  Nothing was coming out, but I noticed that on top of the oil pressure guage there was a slow seep of oil coming out.  I tried to unscrew the 7mm bolt and the whole top part spun and broke the electrical connector.  I have two questions.
Do people think I shoulr replace the whole pressure switch assembly, or is there a specific part that leaks a lot that will solve the problem?
Anyone have a hint on how to get the gear shift selector off, the whole area was covered in a dirt and oil swamp and the seal is on there good?
thanks

you can still get them. I got a used one for 3.00 at the local yard. I dont think there much. That is a common leak on these or at least the to I have. Take the little bolt out and free up the wire. sometime it will spin with it and make your wire twists in funny way's. Then just take the sending unit off. I use a little teflon tape and snug it up.
Once they leak there is no saving them just replace it.

Oil pressure switches dont leak that often but when they do you just have to replace them. Another common leak is the cover of the oil pump, inside is an "O" ring that is not supplied by honda. I have sourced some of these if you want one email me direct.
