what does sea foam do?? is it anything like what moth balls do?? makes it run better but harms the engine over time??  guys, please dont get pissed at me for being discouraged about the bike, but i have no tools here, people keep telling me the almost hit my bike pulling into the space, i dont have money for food, i cant find a job, and since i bought the bike i only have gotten to ride it one time with a nasty old helmet because i couldnt afford to buy one.  i doubt ill sell it because i doubt anyone will pay enough, so im sorry if i seem ungrateful

sent ya an IM.  I live in Marietta and have most of the tools you'll need for the basic maintence, plus I've done carb rebuilds, synching, valves, timing etc..  Maybe you just need a little guidance, let me know if I can be of help, maybe I can shoot up there one weekend and help ya out.
peace,
Leo

About parking the bike... Leave it at the BACK of the space at an angle, with your rear fender just about sticking out into the lane.  That way people KNOW there's something there before they whip into the space.

I learned this the hard way.  I was coming out of an afternoon class, only to see someone pull into the space where my bike was parked (between 2 SUVs).  Thank god they got it stopped before it pushed the bike over.  Only touched my rear tire and scraped the tail light.  Ugh.

Leo,

I was hoping someone close would offer to help this guy out.  It's
a little bit far from Orlando to Athens. :)

easy, free way to test if your carb boots are leaking (causing the bike to rev to the moon). Get some soapy water and splash it on the bots and backsides of the carbs. Start the bike and look for any bubbles or foaming in the soapy water. If you don't see any that isn't your problem.

A common problem with cb550/550/650s is that when someone removes the carbs they don't always push them in far enough and the bike gets air leaks at the carb bases. The carbs should be pushed all the way to the rubbers.

If you have to sell it so be it. I've bought plenty of things that were mistakes and hurt me financially (a certain 1967 GTO when I was 19 comes to mind). Just worry about getting the same amount you shelled out for the bike if you can. Try local ads, ebay, this board, etc... There will be other bikes, just don't let this one sour your expirence on old bikes, espically old hondas. I went through all of this with my first cb750 and now I am hot rodding motors and rebuilding whole bikes. Best of luck.

I don't know what happened to Leo.  Is anyone else around Athens or Atlanta that could help me out.  I am pretty confident about removing the carbs, the only thing I need guidance with is syncronizing, and adjusting everything-also determining if needles need to be replaced and such.

At this point, you really don't need to worry about synchronizing the carbs (unless you want to shell out the bucks for a manometer), you definitely don't want to do any adjusting while you're in there, and needles and jets rarely need replacing, just cleaning.

You seem to keep trying to make things harder than they need to be.  Just start with a good, thorough cleaning, and then go from there.
