bike will not start cb750 k7
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:17:15 AM »
Hi all,
can anyone help me with a problem, I have had the carbs rebuilt by a professional company, new honda internal kits and vapour blasted exteriors, then set up to just bolt on, the problem been, it will not start easy, this is what happens:
full chock no throttle, engine spins free and fires but just will not catch, put a small amount of throttle on whilst keeping my finger on the starter, engine note changes, but no starting, then return the throttle to rest and it nearly starts, this goes on for  4-5 mins, then it catches and runs fine ,obviously starts with one stab of the button warm.Tried it with chock in every position no change, new carb rubbers and filter box rubbers new clamps no air leaks new filter in box, all carbs syncronised ie opening at the same time, hondaman any idea's

personal experience with my 76 CB750F........dirty pilot jets and not enough spark at the plugs.  If carbs are professionaly done, then I would check the plug caps, points, condensors to be sure of spark.  Me personally......I would double check the pilots and float height.

THhe bike has been running perfect before the carbs where cleaned, i fitted electronic ignition and it ran great , will check plug caps never thought of that, there is a healthy spark at all plugs, what should the float height be the carbs are PD41A'S standard set up filter ,exhausts ect

Hello Tworivers...
My K7 was doing the same thing...gets really fussy about starting in colder weather.
Runs perfectly when warm.
What I found was that the choke wasn't closing completely. it's a spring loaded device and one of the plates was binding slightly. I haven't fixed it yet because I haven't felt like fighting the carbs on and off.
The 7s and 8s have accelerator pumps...you might try twisting the throttle a few times to prine the engine a bit. That usually gets mine going.
Also the choke has a fast idle screw that may need adjusting.
