Bike Mechanics shop closed down....watch out!
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:24:46 AM »
So here in oregon there is a well respected motorcycle shop called 'Motorcycle Wrench". I got alot of people telling me to take my bike there if i need anything done. I recently (last tuesday) called the shop, and set up an appointment for Sat to bring my bike in to have the brakes fixed, and the wheels trued. i drove down there Sat around 11:00am, and the shop door was locked, lights off on the inside. There was a notice from the gas company on the front door, saying they had shut off the gas to the shop due to lack of payment. That notice was dated for the previous thursday. After cursing a few times i got on my bike and rode it back home. I called the shop later, to find that thier message machine was also too full to take any more messages. I happend to be on craigslist looking around and started noticing alot of ads saying "Anyone know what happnened to Motorcycle Wrench?".  If you read the various ads its from people that have thier bikes stuck at his shop, but havent been able to get ahold of him for days. Anyways, i just got to thinking how lucky i was that he didnt have time to fit me in right away, or my bike would be stuck there too, and probably be auctioned off to pay for his lease cause he skipped town. i have heard of this happening before, but only at one man shops like this. He had the cheapest prices in town, but it makes me wary of taking my bike again to someplace that is that small. he worked out of a warehouse in an industrial part of town. I guess he could have gotten into an accident, or maybe had to leave town in an emergency, but youd think he would leave a message on his machine stating that. (the emergency) The notice on the door tells me something was really wrong if he didnt make his gas payment, they give you alot of chances here to pay if you dont make it. Anyway, when i talked to him on tuesday, he sounded like everything was fine. Who knows.

Hey,
sorry to hear about another small guy going out-of-business. It is difficult for all us small owners.

Not informing customers is a BIG no-no in my book. Even if he is going out,no matter the reason, it is his responsiblity to inform everyone he's having a problem and leave a contact, or at the minimum a large rock next to the window so you could brak in/climb in and get your stuff ;D.

It is difficult to believe any agency could auction off property that was merely locked in a business. The buyer and sellers of non-owner property would be liable for dealing in stolen property/& court costs, lawyers fees, storage costs, mental anguish, lowered gas milage...etcetc etc.  IE, sometimes people on craigs list exagerate.

Seriously,
if you have stuff at his shop, you better hope ;you kept your reciept, otherwise, THEN I would believe your stuff could be auctioned off.
