the "Cafe" look-a-like craze
« on: November 19, 2008, 11:30:45 AM »
Just wondering if anyone knows what is behind the sudden popularity of this look?  The trend seems to be exploding here in Seattle.

IMHO, it is a predictable snap-back from the chopper craze.
From hideous maximilism (choppers) to spare minimilism (cafe).
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

Frankly I'm surprised the industry hasn't picked up on it. I mean the last thing that looked like something I'd want to buy (assuming I could) was a GB500? Golden opportunity to sell some bikes being missed by the Japanese co's unless they just want to cede that portion of the market to Norton et al.

Edit: Freaking tripod... attached...Not a GB500 but you get the idea. Why not a Honda 4/twin that looks like this? I would soooo save my pennies for that...

That is a fine looking motorcycle, in my opinion.

It's too bad that the bike is a dog...  Less power than our venerable CB750s!  My brother in law rode one on a test ride down at Barber's this year, and he said it has all the rattle and none of the torque of the original 60s and 70s Triumphs he had ridden.

It shure looks purdy though  :D

I sat on a Ducati Paul Smart and it didn't come close to fitting comfortably (then again, I'm 6'2...  ;D)

The Ducati sport classic is an amazing looking bike. I also love the speed triples. Too bad they are both out of my price range  :'( I used to like the thruxton but it just seems like it aint' got no soul behind it.

I doubt "cafe" bikes will ever get to the point of a TV show. Now the trendy old school bobbers, that may be a different story...

You should re-title this thread:  "the cafe look-alike-craze of middle class suburban dwelling males who dislike rap music and know what the Isle of man TT is, ages 18-30."   :)  to be a little more specific.

Love the Thruxton.  My brother has an 05 that we done some bolt on stuff too.  Airbox removal, predator exhaust jetted.  Bike is awsome fun to ride.  I like my 08 Speed Triple just alittle better though :)

I live out in the sticks...and, I decided not to buy myself a sportbike, but to build one, with suspension upgrades/mods and motor tweaks. Does that make my bike a look-a-like, or a real live cafe?

well i suppose if you did more than put on low bars and a bump seat then it could possibly be considered up for nomination for the chance to be a real cafe....one day
