I want to know where I get one of those Snorton things before I put an order in on a Bullet.  Jeese I'd love to build something like that, but it would just plain cost too much.

I'm serious- where do I get one?

I thought I posted a response to this yesterday, but when I looked, there was nothing.  I hate the home computer.

If memory serves me correctly, the guys that were making them were out of the Georgia Mtns and operating under the name "Thunder Road".  I think they have disappeared, but let me dig through some old e-mails and see if I can get you a contact.

As for the Featherbed frames, they can hold just about anything there is a lot of room and clearance hence the popularity with a lot of the older cafe racers.  I am toying with getting one and dropping a 1200 HD engine in it.  You can find old featherbeds on CL or E-bay from time to time, and the 650 savage, should be an easy pick up.  I would guess you can get an engine out of a wrecked one pretty cheap, and you can get the whole bike for 2-3000 on any given day.

From memory on the snorton, they worked the tranmission, and changed the drive from belt to chain and did a few performance upgrades to get a few extra horses.

A lot of folks make very high quality NEW featherbeds (unity equipe, manxman, etc) with MSO's.  I would not say it is too far out of range to make it yourself or get a good one fabbed up.

The part I fould really funny, the guys at thunder road used tach and speedo from JC whitney.  I had a good laugh on that because it was so simple.

I dig Brown 550's what can I say... those are the 4 bikes we rode 2200 miles to Mexico 2 weeks ago...   Pretty cool eh?  oh and all the tops of the tanks are green except 1 which was a virtual perfect barn find... ( $181.30 on ebay last year )

and they all made it home... well except one motor... only .75% of it came home okay...

I quit smoking last year and wanted to celebrate by taking a trip... this was 8 days with 3 Harley pals... ( they own Harleys I don't )... the point of the trip was to remember that Riding Motorcycles is FUN and not a life style or Life choice... it's just something we do cause we love it...

oh and you meet the nice folks on a Honda...

K( keep in mind I've been fast... now I'm looking for fun challanges )

oh man...  Yeah I guess that was fun... mostly it was a brutal challange... especially El Mirage... but there you go...

One of the tough bits about that gig is that it's very much about money...  it's a very quick way to make a small fortune... ( start with a large one )...  Keep in mind the level of success I was striving for...

That was the whole 550 gig... I can buy them for nothing and they require a minor degree of mechanical skill... which I seem to have a grasp on...  I Totally dig it...  Every bit of it... matter of fact... I love the bucks down as much as I dug running 260+mph...

Money screws up a lot of things...  I think it's incredibly important to enjoy the process... and Actually it's become very important to me as I've gone on...

I hear ya Keith, when I was young and just getting started, I just ambled along and did what I could afford to do.
In today's present financial climate, I keep asking myself why am I doing it.
I keep thinking I should be putting money aside for when I retire but I've seen lots of people not make it that far.
I met a young guy in Valdosta the other week who spent three days racing in the Drag Bike Finals before dashing overnight, back to Kenntucky for chemotherapy treatment for bowel cancer at just 36. :( :( :(
Think I'll just plod on and see what happens, ya never know what's round the corner.

ROFLMMFAO!  Those back rest are ugly.  Were they playing music?  Sounded like one was doing it on its own.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Talking about the “Café” look-a-like craze, I can’t help wanting to share this photo of my recently sold 1975 Norton 850 Interstate in light café trim. I had it for 3 years and to me it’s definitely one of the best looking bikes. Ever! To bad that it also had all of the usual “bad habits” that is shared by most of the British bikes of that era. - Not at all reliable as my new little cb400f, also from ’75, that I’m about to rebuilt this winter. But that old Norton sure had both the right looks and that special old-school charm.

IMHO best looking motorcycle being built today is the triumph thruxton

It's too bad that the bike is a dog...  Less power than our venerable CB750s!  My brother in law rode one on a test ride down at Barber's this year, and he said it has all the rattle and none of the torque of the original 60s and 70s Triumphs he had ridden.

It shure looks purdy though  :D

I sat on a Ducati Paul Smart and it didn't come close to fitting comfortably (then again, I'm 6'2...  ;D)

The Paul Smart aint suppose to fit till your laid over in a corner at the max,
then they fit perfect... ;D The Sport Classics are more up right much more comfortable
in traffic and such.

Speaking of dogs, I just put a deposit on a Royal Enfield.  It's going to have rear-sets, aluminium tank, exhaust, jets, etc.  After break-in, I'm sure I'll need better tires for proper parking lot maneouvers...
