It is a true skyline that the kid just blew up the motor and needs a rebuild. Overboosted it. He paid a fortune to get it into this country. There a few by me here in NYC.

The oil tank measures about 9" long, 4.5" dia. The filler neck has a fittiing for the breather tube. The return and feed are on the underside. No standpipe for the return. Needed?

FWIW, the stock tank has a stand pipe. i just cut all mine out thinking i was going to use them in my new tank... may just do weld-in AN's instead.

Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

I too am wondering... for my project, I have the return line feeding to the top of the tank, hoping this is sufficient

I am trying to be patient with a few more things going to the powdercoater.
Still waiting for the rear sets, wheels, clip ons. I am going to mount the headlight bucket this week.
Hopefully the header wrap and the rearshocks will be in this week. Cannot wait to see it all back. I am getting antsy as hell.

quick idea sorry if you dont like it.  i too didnt want turn signals on my bike but drivers here in alabama are well darn right scary, so i wanted at least rear blinkers.  I went to autozone and bought two led strips 1/4" wide 1/32" thick 6" long and purchased a special led blinker.  Put the strips on the back of the rear upright, barely noticeable yet safety first.

PS Blinkers suck

dev, I hear you on retard drivers. Please show me a picture of what you came up with. I may add on a signal. Not sure yet.

As of yesterday. Took the chain through the parts washers and lubed it up. So nice when they are clean.
Also mounted the headlight bucket and connected all the wiring in there. Grounded the negative battery cable.

As for the wheels. Whats your thoughts on Goldleafing the rim and painting the lip black. Thoughts??

My 8 year old son is into army stuff big time and he asked me if I was going to paint my bike camoflaged.... no son, I'd rather not blend into the scenery doing 55 mph... :)

Great Build Project!  Very creative and the bike has a theme from front to rear.  My only concern is the oil tank..........yours may be just fine.......just be sure to allow head-space for the foaming action of the hot oil return.  Most builders use a tall tank to create the required head-space.  I think the red stripe on the tank and red accent on the wheels is great.  I would keep some amount of shine or light-reflective finish on the edges of the rims for some safety consideration at night. Even Darth Vadar had a light stick and a beacon of sorts!

how do you like those rear shocks?? i just mounted the same ones, but i ont have the wheels on yet so i dont know how stiff they will be.

If you have your bike rolling, any tips on setting the shocks up???  Your project looks wicked, big ups for doing all the work yourself!!

Nice looking Cafe! I like your oil tank. I toyed around with my 71 cb750 and ended up getting a spent nos tank for my oil. It gets a lot of attention. I drilled and taped the bottom of the tank for the fittings. It looks cool but it takes 2 men and a goat to fill it thru the 3/8" fitting on the top of the tank. L o v e the gold!!!!

I modded the oil tank again and forgot to take new pics of it. Basically the same shape and design just move the return line to the top/side of the tank. Has a wicked hot rod look to it.
Thanks for all of the comments and kudos. I appreciate it. I love building and fabricating things. Have to take it to the next level and get myself a welder and begin learning.
As for the shocks gribbs, not sure yet. The bike still looks like it does in the pics. Waiting for the wheels to get back from powdercoating. I will let you know as soon as I get her rolling.
I am waiting on the upper triple tree brace, wheels, clip ons, oil tank and rear sets to come back from the powdercoater and then I will install and hopefully have a runner.
Old scrambler is there a general rule of thumb to find out about head-space for the oil? Thanks for comment I will also look into it.
As for tires, I am debting on running the route 66 pirelli wheels. Think the big white letters will give it that old school feel. Thoughts?

About 1/3rd of tank volume, maybe less if you run an oil cooler.  Yes, the white lettered tires are very period correct. They started in the late '60s.  Regarding the tail-light and license plate: keep it lit and horizontal.  Many states and now the Feds are considering a law that all plates must be horizontal and mounted on the rear of the vehicle. The LED light bars and bolts are cool.  I plan to use them on a cafe project of my own after I finish building a Dunstall project on an F2 frame.

Hey cafe2be -- I'm in NYC also. Who is doing your powder coating -- is it someone local? I'm looking to get some parts done too.

Vames - I had the frame and a few other pieces done by a friend in astoria (mainly does electrical boxes), the rest of my stuff is getting done by Action Powdercoating in LI.

Old Scrambler - I am debating on running this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280292897765
to fit in the back of the tail section since mine is open. Obviously going to spray it black. But think it may fit the rear section nicely and resolve all of my other issues. Think I am going to go with the Pirelli tires. Like the look. Is that your bike in the signature? Sweet as hell.

The tail light is OK until you come up with a better idea.  Some have use units from the SL350 bikes and others have used an HD Sportster unit.  Take a look at the light units on a Honda FT500 Ascot model.  Your unit lacks a side profile for safety.  Consider the license plat holder as a place to mount a rigid vinyl mud-flap covered by the plate.  For this bike you might consider the bar-end turn-signal posts that mimick the 60s BMW look.  The posts can also be mounted at the rear. Take a look at this bike's tail...........

Yes, the 305 Scrambler turned Cafe Racer is my build but the bike belongs to a friend.  It took 3rd place in the Japanese Cafe catagory at the VMD Mid-Ohio event last year.  I hope to see a lot of 750 sohc bikes at that event this year.

Want something to follow the contour of the rear hump. Not running a rear fender either. Might look into Ducati tailights, off the monster. Think a friend has an extra lense.
I hear you on the side profile for the light. Great idea. Thanks!
That bike is beautiful. Welldone!

You could use the aftermarket unit to fill the space and add a string of LED to give it some side profile.

The silver bike in picture is not mine. I just wanted to show some profile to the tail light.  Here is another shot!
