I'm starting a build on a 75 & 76 550 as well. Lots of good information and nice people on here. Where are you located ?

Having a great time with the bike, now that it is cold starting to get some work done on it.

I'm going to register as soon as I take a picture, but right now I have the tank and seat off.  Just lined up the wheels today.  Finishing up the homemade manometer so I can tune up the carbs.

As for color, it was painted all black when I bought it.  I am trying to decide whether to paint it the original orange flake or some other color. I think it was originally green.

Maybe I will go ahead and post a picture of how it looks now then update it later?

i'm live down in bowling green and am currently working on doing a mild cafe of my '76 550f, which is up in maumee.
let me know if you need help with anything. i've only been on this board for a few months, but have met lots of nice people on & off the net in the area already. I may also have a few spare parts depending upon what you're looking for.

some of those original flake colors look pretty sweet, there have been many photos posted around the board if you want to try and get an idea of what it may look like in the end.

good luck, can't wait to see some pix of your bike...in whatever state it's in
