I finally finished my teaching credential and promised the other half that my 78 550K would be next on my list. I've been hauling it around for almost 20 yrs, it's time to finish it.
I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone else do what I am doing. I found some CB 1000/900 forks w/dual piston callipers. They are 35mm and slide right in. The forks are longer, but so are my WP shocks.
Are the newer forks any better than the orignal 550/750 forks? Can they be modded?
The callipers were now wider than the dual disks bolted to a stk 550 hub. I spaced the callipers in w/washers for now to mock it up. The disks had to be thinned so as to fit the new callipers. The newer disks would not bolt up to old hub, 5 hole vs 6 hole. That's all I've done so far.
Next on my list is getting the carbs cleaned, then start checking the elect before messing w/Dyna ign.
I have everything I need, I just have to get things working together. This forum has been both helpful and inspiring, especially the "Inspiration Gallery".
I'm not skilled enough to post pics yet. I will be making progress reports as I complete things.
Any suggestions for a different/better/cheaper ign system? The locking barrel is old and replacements are expensive from what I have seen. Thanks for all the ideas.
