So,
Eariler in the summer I bought a basket case CB160 to build up and stick in my apartment.
I have no plans to ever ride the thing, so I was basically going to build up a wicked little cafe bike and have it for more as an art piece than anything.

The original plan was to mout it vertical on my fireplace. I have kinda an oldschool fireplace that sticks out about 4 feet from the wall, so I thought it would be cool to mount the bike vertical so the headlite would be facing the ceiling.

Well, after walking past the bike since June, I finally decided to measure it last night.
The opeing I have (from top of fireplace to celing) measure 5 feet 11''.
Guess what the bike measures ? 6 feet 2'' !!!

The measurement might not be
dead on, as I took it in the rain and my by myself, but it is atleast 6'' long tire to tire.

So, anyone have a smaller/shorter bike they wanna get rid of ?
Any thoughts on what I could do to "tighten up' the bike so it would fit ?

Why not mount the bike diagonally? A 30 degree tilt or something like that. The headlight would still point towards the ceiling but not straight up at it.

Why not mount it like it's doing a wheelie?
If you get creative enough, you could put a few bits of gravel/asphalt looking as if suspended in mid air as if they are being kicked up by the rear wheel.

"apartment" bike..... thats a new one to me.

That would be diagonal if doing a wheelie.

I def. have room to move the back wheel "out" towards the edge of the fire place.
Not sure if this will solve the issue or not. Smaller diameter wheels will def. solve the issue,
but I really didnt want to sink allot of cash into this project. Plus I wanna keep the bike looking like a cafe/tracker deal-e-o. I could always full the tires with great stuff and cut them flat

I experianced something like this last night when I went to pick up the CB160 that I bought off of craigslist a month ago. The bike was located a little over 3 hours from me, just a bit east from my trip back to see the folks. Thinking that it is a CB160 it shouldnt be that big, heck all the ones I have seen in person appear really small so I took the subaru baja. OOOH was I in for a treat last night.. Long story short I drove home w/ a bike hanging out the back of my car...

BTW I have had a 75 CB550 as a center piece in my house for over a year, copycat.

Apartment Bike Update:
After much thinking, and the install of my new 58'' TV, the "Apartment" bike is going to be built and parked uder the tv in my living room. I actually lugged the bike up two flights of stairs with help from my 2 buddies, and is now residing in the dining room part of my kitchen (where it will be torn apart and built back up).

Once I get into the build I will take pics and document as usual...

Def. gonna have the headlite/tail lights work for sure (prob. via a toggle on the headlite bucket).

You are so lucky that you can have the bike inside. My missis won't even consider me bringing any of the stable inside....even when I reassure her that there will be no fuel in the tank and all oil leaks will be dealt with. (Can you spell norton?)

This bike will NEVER move under it's own power as long as I own it.
Bike has no title, and I am way too big to cruise a CB160 around

I am "lucky" becasue I live on my own, and my P's own the building I live in so I kinda have full reign.
It was funny when my dad asked me this morning where the "crap" bike that was chainned to the fence was and I told him, "in the kitchen!"

cut some of the front wheel off and make it look like it is going through the ceiling, just a thought. If you get this done please post photos, I think it is going to look killer.................Chris

As you can see "rough" is a nice word to describe the condition the bike is currently in...

All this hassle, when all you had to do is let the air outta the tires..

Then inflate again when it stands up, pretty well hold itself then....

might have to bob the fender a bit..

Would have to do more than let air outta the tires (give me alittle credit)..
More like cutting a inch or so outta each tire/wheel to get it shoved in the space it was originally gonna go...
Plus the front/rear fender will be removed once the "build" starts...
