« on: November 24, 2008, 10:33:12 AM »
i recently installed a new custom tank and petcock from and earlier CB...my question is how do i run the fuel lines to the carb from the petcock? do i run 1 fuel line from the reserve to the carb and one from the main line to the carb? do i need a Y fitting?

Does your petcock have two outlets? (Main and Reserve?)

OK. So let's assume that these are main and reserve.

The 550 carbs have two pipe connections (the original petcock only had one outlet so a t-piece was required), so connect one pipe to each. The connections should be between 1/2 and 3/4

* Of course, the UK carbs might have been completely different so the above is all a load of b*****ks !!   ;D

Should work. The two connections are to a single feed that runs right through the carbs.

The two outlet petcocks are parallel feed.  Connect one to the left fuel inlet to the carbs, and the other to the right inlet.

Pah!  At least I went along with "petcock"   ;D    Over here that would be the dog's dick!

We call it a fuel tap, which perfectly describes the device....

Right.   Do you wear boots?  Or, close them on your jam jar?  Did your women stop wearing bonnets 'cause they kept getting confused with an auto's anatomy?

Related questions:

What kind of Pet?   ;D

No, seriously, 2 questions:

1.  Assume you have 1/2 tank of gas.  Should fuel flow out of both of the pitcock outlets?  Doesn't matter if it is in reserve or regular.  Fuel flows out both outlets.

2.  I have a small inline filter on one of the fuel lines.  Is that original?  seems silly to have a filter in that location downstream of the pitcock filter.

Yes.  But, if you are watching it, gravity will make it look like the first exit from the log dominates.  But, once flow stops at the first (from a filled pipe) the second one will flow as the first.

2.  I have a small inline filter on one of the fuel lines.  Is that original?  seems silly to have a filter in that location downstream of the pitcock filter.
The stock ones have a filter in or on top of the petcock. (depends on model)  No in-lines.  I'm one of those that think the stock filters in proper working order are all you need.  Others disagree, but can't explain the physics of needing two (or more) filters for the fuel.  However, for whatever their reasons, they seem to be happier people with the arrangement. ::)

No animosity at all TT its just the standard "Watford Gap" joke here in the UK, its actualy a very overpriced and crap service area on the M1 motorway---bit like your interstates only busier and pricier

OK (looking at your location); how about an East Coast / West Coast split?

Can we get back to the fuel line question now (sorry for the hijack...)
