CB550 Oil Pump Leak!
« on: November 24, 2008, 04:21:39 PM »
I'm almost done fixing the '75 CB550K I bought this summer.  One of the few things left to do is fix that annoying oil leak from under the left engine cover.  I opened it up and can tell that the oil is leaking from the oil pump cover (the plate with the three bolts on the front of the pump, see pic below).  After doing some research here, it seems like it's a common problem, but it sounds like people have a hard time finding this annoying 47 (46?) mm flat o-ring.  Where the heck can I get one?  I bought a metric o-ring kit, but nothing looks like it's going to match up!

I have oil leak same place on CB650 and made the assumption, that the O-ring is the same as the one that goes between the oil pump and the engine case. However that O-ring is no longer available from Honda. So next week, old O-ring in hand I shall undertake quest for thy Holly O-ring, at neerest hydraulic repair shops. Thanks Honda.

Not sure if this helps, but I've ordered o-rings from the company below in the past.

You really need to use a Viton-type o-ring for oil and fuel applications and they seem to have virtually every size in stock.  The hardest part is correctly sizing the old o-ring, given its age and wear.

The "O" ring under the cover IS NOT the same as the one between body and crankcase.

I have sourced, and have available, sets of 4 "O" rings for the 550. Please note it took some time to chase the size of the cover one and i had to buy a "minimum" quantity to get them.
I do not know if the 650 is identical or not as i have never stripped one down.

Sets consist of:-
1 x Oil pump cover
1 x Oil pump to crankcase
2 x Oil feed and suction.

As I am in the UK the cost with airmail shipping to the US and paypals cut is $12. Several people on the board have had them and nobody has told me they dont work yet
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
