A hand cannon
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:07:20 AM »
You've heard of horse pistols, which was originally the name give the Colt Walker,
So I guess we'd call this one an Elephant pistol
must be a bit hard to handle. .600 Nitro.

That's why Smith & Wesson is the only production manufacturer of a 50 cal hand gun! They have many patented design areas to reduce kickback and eliminate some internal pressures to ensure a safe gun...

I have an old 12ga. break open single sawed off to the min. legal 18" barrel length with the stock cut off and shaped into a pistol grip. It is used as a bush/canoe beater bear repellant gun and is ugly to shoot.

never having fired a 600 I'm only guessing but I think his grip technique is most to blame.
I've know of fellows busting their heads shooting a 44 mag hand gun and I actually find
the 44 mag recoil enjoyable with one or two hands.

Dave, how is that sawed off with one hand?  ;D

Never tried it one handed RM. Not sure my skinny arms could even hold it steady being so heavy and unbalanced and ugly.  It can shoot 9" circles at 15 yds. though  ;D

I agree.  I expect the .454 would do the same thing in that shooter's hands.
However, the scoped 454 still comes to within an inch or two of my brow in recoil, even when using a firm two hand grip.  Same with my wife.

However, it is physically fatiguing.  After 10 shots, you suddenly don't feel like refilling the cylinder again.  Maybe the effort of making a grin that big takes something out of ya?

Cheers,

Sorry guys, 600 nitro, .50 Desert Eagle, even .44 Magnum's are not for me.
May be I'm a chicken, but my limit is a full power load of .357, fired by my beloved Ruger GP100.
That's enough.
Sory the bad english.

GP100 is the wife's gun.  Nice gun.  But, it won't punch a neat, round hole in 1/4 inch plate steel like the 454 will. ;D
Gotta select the proper tool for the job!

.......... if I had a nice piece of steel plate big enough to shoot at, I'd probably just save it for a project. There is a temptation to drag a junk engine block out to the gallery and see what a .454 will do to a 350...  ;D

It does make nice holes.

Let's consider the fact that that nitro is almost the size of a small rifle. If you watch the video close, the guy's arms were shaking big time before he even took the shot... I wouldn't have wasted the round. Darwin almost won on that one....
