Consumer debt?
« on: January 30, 2009, 12:17:46 AM »
I just thought with a few threads going on regarding the economy, a quick anonymous credit poll might be enlightening ;D

I will vote later, I promise.

I have 20X in investments as I do in debt.  Currently debt is consolidated onto a credit card with 0 interest until Dec 09.  After that if I can't switch it I'll pay it off.

Their are blood suckers out there, they all want something for nothing.

The same halfwits that whine about providing health care to a drywall installers wife think it's all good that they make money from financing a car dealer's "Acid Rain Proof" wax on their already too expensive (for the buyer) car.

I got some debt but then I just bought a house before everything went belly up. It was a cheap place as in cost. I have gutted the bathroom and redid all that and many other little things. that is where my debt came from. It will probably be paid off once I get my taxes back.

When me and my wife married we (stupidly) ran up about 40k in debt.

8 years later, I have no credit cards.
The car, van and bikes are all paid for, and have $0 in debt.
Picked up a house in the meantime as well.... so officially i'm 120k+ in debt still.
But paying off that as quick as I can.

Not a whole lot of savings, but... I'm working on that slowly as well.
If I could only pay my house off.  Been tempted to see if I can get a part time machinist job just to add $$ each month beyond what I do already.
I've thought of getting ANY part time job, but $8.00 at 7-11 ain't gonna cut it.
I see my kids little as it is on graveyard, so it better pay me well.

If things work out I might be starting a small home machine shop in a few months.
But thats up in the air at the moment.

I have no credit card debt mainly because I never buy new cars or bikes for that matter and I'm not a shopper (except for bike parts, lol) my wife is very conservative with money. My primary debt is in a home equity that I use to pay for my kids college education. This being the the 7th consecutive year of private college tuition (2 kids 3 years apart) is about to break my bank, good thing it's almost over and I still have a decent paying job, for the time being anyway.

i would say consumer debt includes a mortgage... most of the people in the mess they're in are there because of bad lending practices and acceptance of it by the borrowers.  credit cards are a drop in the bucket.

but maybe you're not really talking about the current "crisis".   ;)  maybe you just wanna know how greedy we all are.   ;D

i've got a crapload of debt... from school which is what i would not consider consumer debt... lets just say i pay 500 a month and leave it at that.   :'(

my credit cards got a little racked up too while in school.  about 6k

Let's just put it this way, I have no debt and my wife HAS to work. Plus she has a good job and can NOT get into my accounts. Make your own assumptions.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

When you need a pair of jeans, why do BOA & VISA need to make 3 to 5%??

Who do we all think pays this fee?  On top of the enabling of government oversight of every purchase you make.

People are sold things they do not need, this is wasted effort, and waste chokes every system.

what is really getting my goat about credit cards these days is rate hiking.

i've got 5 credit cards... 3 of them w/in the last 2 months have hiked my manageable 10% or below rates to 19% or above.
all of the notices give me the option of opting out and give the date the hike starts... every notice came at least a month AFTER the effective date even though they all claimed they went out ahead of time... so even if i opt out i'm still stuck w/ high interest for the past month because they can't get their sh!t together in a timely fashion.

i asked each of them why they hiked my rates... they said they have to do it across the board "because their lenders have raised their own borrowing percentage".   :(

My vote includes about 40k of medical debt. Without the medical debt it's less than 1k
