CB125S seat question
« on: November 27, 2008, 07:48:40 AM »
I finally got the title for this little bike.......and think I'm gonna make it a winter project.

After searching for a few pics of the bike (1980 CB125S), I realized that the seat on my bike looks a little different than the seats on other 1980 CB125S's.

This is a restored example: note the shorter seat.

..And this is mine. My seat runs right back to the tail light. I had a good look at it and it looks like Genuine Honda Hardware, not a retrofit job  ??? I don't want to order the wrong seat cover.

Anyone else ever seen an issue like this, or have a 125 with the larger seat like mine?

Looks like someone put a 175/200 seat on it - maybe even a 350 seat.

Maybe, its about the size of my 750F's seat

I have been googling pics of every 125 and haven't seen a pic of a seat like this yet. It is about the size and shape of a 750F2 seat, much larger than the seat 350F.

I took the seat off and I'm even more confused. The seat hasn't been modified to fit, and judging by where the rubber pads meet the frame, and the associated wear, it looks like this is the only seat this bike has had.

I'll take a pic of the seat pan when I get a chance, there is a bracket bolted to the seat pan which bolts to the frame which definately looks Honda.

I've had 2 80 125Ss, and the "example" seat is the correct one.  I miss those bikes.

Who am I kidding?  I miss all of the bikes I've had.

I measured CB360 seat so you can eliminate that (or not?) CB360, 2ft long, 12" wide at grab strap

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks

Thanks PJ, I can cross that one off too  ;D

This ones roughly the same size as the one on a 750F2.

Here are a few more pics I took today:

As the bike sits now with the seat on it....

Doesn't look too bad to me, and is rather comfy to sit on.

Now, the underside..

See the bracket in the left of the pic, it's a little too well fabricated to pass off as a hack job IMO. This seat must have been on another model and happens to fit.

I can get the whole seat assembly out of Thailand for about $65 so maybe I'll go that route.

I sort of  recognised the brackets, can.t remember model though. I know I've worked on the bikes that had that seat (1977~80)
The main seat foam/cover looks like a 1976~77 550F seat

Thanks PJ, After looking through some online micro fiche I found a close match.....but not exact.

This is the seat on a 1980 CM200T which has a similar bracket. After all this, I think I'll just buy the right seat for it anyway  ::)
