OK I have taken some time offf of working on my bike but now it is time to get back on it. I have a few questions though and here they are, i hope someone that reads this post will have some answers for me.
1. I have the engine apart and am going to end up painting it , i need to blast it but i am wondering which media to use on the engine
2. What is a good paint to use on the engine and where can i get it.
3. where can i get new crankshaft bearings
4. what process should i follow to prep the engine for paint after blasting it.
Any info that you can offer would be much appreciated.
Blasting aluminum is probably best left to the pros: probably glass bead, and lightly.
Paint: use engine paint. I would think the insulative qualities of powder coat will also warm up the engine, especially in black. Engine paints require a good primer for hte bare metal, then the color of your choice: Cuplicolor makes some good ones. Degreasing the eninge first is paramount, though, like maybe taking the cases to an engine shop and have them run them through their "case washers".
Crank bearings: only place I know is Honda. You'll need the colors of the shells, their original positions, or else a manual and the case numbers, plus the rod numbers, plus the crank numbers, and some Plastigage, to figure them back out if they were all removed without marking first. There can easily be up to 3 different thicknesses of shells in one engine.
Are you going to use the original seat, or something else?
