50 here. i guess ya have to mature to enjoy the finer things, like vintage bikes.
at one time i rode harleys, before it was "fashion". but honda was my 1st ('64 CL72 / 250 scrambler) & now i have 7 hondas & a suzuki. 4 are SOHC 750's.

Hey Dan, long time!
Got my first taste of riding on a homebuilt moped at age 8 or so, out in the cornfield behind the church up the road. Next was a '76 CB750 (my brother's) at age 20 or so. Got my '76 CB550 2 years later, and still have it. Got the '73 CB750 last fall, have yet to work on it- it's an old "under-the-tree-behind-the-garage" veteran, gonna take a LOT of work to restore that old boy.
Only wish I could have as many rigs as some here have, but then I remember I already have too many projects, and only one pair of legs to swing over a bike at one time. If I had too many, I'd ride one and feel bad for slighting the others. ;D

Yeah, I feel just horrible about that. Keeps me up at night. Now if I can just buy 1 more I'd have one for each day of the week.

Should start a new poll as to who is younger than the bike that they are riding..Sort of like scoring your age in golf!!

Twenty?? I can't even remember that far back!  ;) Oh, now I remember, that was about the time Uncle Sam said he needed me.

I read somewhere that every minute you spend riding an SOHC gets added on to the end of your life. That must make me 'bout 40...with a life expectancy of 180!

Just turned 50 and still remember hearing one of the first CB750's to hit town.  What a sound that was.

Poll doesn't surprise me, you have to be a tad older to appreciate the 70's (with the usual exception from the rule, of course). My father is 69 now, owns 4 beemer dating from 1958 to 1993 and is still going strong. I am just a rookie, turning 47 in a couple of days.

Bought my used 750 in 1971.

Did you ever notice, that if you take the poll graph and rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise where the 50+ appear to be (think over the hill   ;)). Thanks Richard, you are getting closer. I'm 61 going on.. who knows!  :-\

I got my first bike in 1964. A 1955 FLh, my dad was a submarine driver in ww2 and wasn't much on anything Japaneese to say the least. The 55was the best 150dollars I ever spent! It needed a complete rebuild but when I first started it ......... I've never had that feeling since. I am lucky I now have a selection of bikes and love all of them. I was 15 in 1964 you do the math. Scott in San Diego

i know ive already replied to this thread but it will still have to do with age... ;)
i was one year old and my parents just finished the adoption process to have yours truly... dad was working in the local honda shop (al's honda in hutchinson, ks) and reminisces fondly about the whole sohc4 phenomenon (the last year for the 400fss was that same year)... he's been stoked since i got the 350 and is thrilled that i've decided to get the 400 going-  it would have been his choice (he thought the styling was great and it had a mechanical edge over the 350)

Started riding chook chasers (BSA Bantams) in 1963. First road bike (Kwaka Mach 111) in 1972. Never been without a bike & never will (old days were better-no helmets & no booze bus).

It's nice to read that some of you posters are younger than your bikes, shows you have taste.
It's the otherway round in my case, the bikes 33 I'm almost 60 ( but still howling.)

I also missed the thread before posting closed but here is a capsule:  First powered transport, a 48ish Powell motorscooter aquired in 1950 & ridden until joining US Army next year.  Next, in Germany, a 100cc Imme, referred to by the locals as a half-motorcycle, as it had a single-sided swing arm & a single fork leg, too!  Next a H-D WLA, (ugh) quickly swapped for a 1938 Zundapp K800 four.  Later, BMW, Triumph 110, & several Matchless & AJS & other Triumphs.  A Yamaha 305, 2 Kwacker 350 Avengers, a bunch of CB350's & a Dunstall 400F.  New CB350F in 1972, stiill ridden daily along with my T140V & G12CSR.  My dirt bikes are 2 G80CS's, one owned since 1956, used in their natural habitat, the Mojave Desert.  Some other projects in the shed.  I'm 71 & counting, but it's hard to blow out all those candles.

Seems like its the more mature rider that has a Honda SOHC.

Here are the results of a poll on the Suzuki SV650 site, www.SV650.org, for comparison.
Only five of us in the 50-59 section :-[

What age range are you in?
17-19    7%    [ 9 ]
20-29    50%    [ 58 ]
30-39    25%    [ 30 ]
40-49    12%    [ 14 ]
50-59    4%    [ 5 ]
60+ :S    0%    [ 0 ]
