i know this is supposed to work but . . . come on!!!!
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:59:04 PM »
so i finally got a headlight for my k7 750k and knew that there was going to be a lot of the wire harness to stuff into it, much more than my k5 450.
but come on
look at this photo
i got all of it into the bucket but can't bring the bucket up to the ear mounts because all the wires together are too stiff.

i don't know if you can tell from the photos but is there too much fed through into the bucket?
should i leave what i can outside or should it all fit?

Try mounting the bucket to the ears first, then add harnesses separately one at a time.

i realize now that i must have either the wrong year mounts or the wrong year headlight bucket because the back of the bucket doesn't clear the ignition switch base. that is why i can't get the headlight bolted to the mounts.

Yeah, I think they changed after the k6. Sorry. Good luck with it.

Cant remember from when but they fitted a plastic box under front LH of tank for all the wiring to go in on later bikes Aslo the headlamp shell got smaller when the ignition switch moved to between the clocks

The 77/78Ks did not use a plastic box for wire connections up front.  Connections are in the headlight bucket.

For those bikes with the bigger bucket, all wires do fit in there although it may seem impossible. A spritz of ArmorAll helps loosen things up allowing wires to flex and slide over each other. Can't hurt (I don't think).

The model portion of the part number for the bucket is 300, so it must be the same as all the K models.  My bet is on the wrong ears.

i am sure it is the ears. the mounts are up just a tiny bit too high so that the ignition gets in the way just enough.
i have a '75 F headlight but i don't like how small it is.
my wife is getting irritated about how much $$$$ i am shelling out to get this bike in order so i'm going to have to work it out somehow.

do you guys think if i cut a spot in the bucket for the ignition base to fit in that there will be too much of a chance for water to collect inside?

Drill a couple of drain holes and go for it!  :)
