'The 750 book": what would you like to see in it?
« on: November 29, 2008, 06:12:10 PM »
Now that it's officially winter here, and I'm forced to actually work on this book instead of painting or wrenching or taking more pictures for it...

What would you like to see in it? There are at least 3 different types of manuals out there that cover the basics of rebuilding and maintenance, although all have errors and differing omissions. Mine will have the omission of the "F" engines, since I don't have one to rebuild for the book, so maybe I should call this part the "750K1-K6 book"...

I plan on having some theory in it, like specifics about this forced-swirl combustion system, which was novel at the time and has influenced all engines since. And, electrical theory, to hopefully ward off misunderstandings about why this type of alternator system is different from a typical car. And, suspension theory, which no manuals ever cover, maybe tires, too. And, oiling system theory, because these engines oil themselves in many subtle ways that most folks don't realize.

Mixed into the text so far, I have "Performance Tip" where freebie improvements are available for some elbow grease or cheap upgrades of some sort.

Short of turning it into an encyclopedia, what else would y'all like to see?
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

A "tricks of the trade" section would be invaluable, all the little tricks that mechanics have learned to make repairing and servicing these bikes easier.
Maybe a bit of racing history as well.

ID of cams if possible... if the R marking and numbers mean anything... got an NOS mint one today :o

Simple ID  of year methods, I use things like:
bars in endfins on side of head (and leading edge of top fin)
carbs
shifter cover
sidecovers
headlite ears
signal lights, etc..

Hi Mark,

Will you please consider a downpayment for these books?

I am sure that there are many expanses involved in publishing a book,  so maybe we should help with supporting in advance?

Looking forward for the book,

Cheers
