Since I just signed on with the site this may have already been thought of, but what do you folks think about putting together a directory of bike shops that you've had good experiences with and you'd recommend to other folks with vintage bikes? Good shops that will work on vintage bikes (and do it right!) are hard to find, especially with the "old timers" who know how to sync carbs... let alone know what the heck a carb is!

I know, I know, most of us probably like doing the work ourselves and that's a great reason for us to get together on this board and share our knowledge. But, from time to time, when we need a little "pro" help....

Whaddaya think?

Sounds good to me. I wouldn't mind seeing similar input on say prof. painting, etc. Most fool around to a large extent doing their own mechanics (or trying) but I wonder how many have the equipment and expertise for painting and finishing?

I'll start it for what it's worth. I know that I'm in the centre of New South Wales in Australia but if you're looking for a top spray painter you won't go past Robert Layard of Dubbo. Not only is he a panel beater and spray painter (artist) he also owns and rides a red K1. And boy, you should see the paint job on that. Actually you should see the paint job he did on my K2!! Two-pack, lacquer between coats, stripe painted on (not a stick on decal)  and final coat another clear lacquer. And whilst I'm in Dubbo there is an upholsterer here (Tony Espert and his brother - both in their 50s who also own and ride bikes) who will re-cover anything back to original. Needless to say the work on my bike was done by these guys. Oh yeah, not to forget the electroplater in the same street who does magic chroming work. What else do you need?

Title sounds fine to me!

In southeastern lower Michigan, USA, everyone I talk to recommends Phil's Cycle Shop in Waterford on M-59. He's been in business for close to 40 years. A lot of folks refer to him as "Old man Honda"!
