Please help me Pay It Forward
« on: December 01, 2008, 09:55:37 PM »
I have a very dear friend of mine who has a 96 1200 sportster S and he was givin 1 year tops to live! he is pretty depressed and was even more when he seen me ridding again he is on SSI and doesnt have any extra money to fix his bike...

all his bike needs is some good gas, a Dual Brake hose (the line from the MC to the calipers), and 2 tires (front and rear)

I know the economy is tuff and money is short but i'm trying to help him out and hopefully he will be able to (with my help) get his bike running and ride next summer.. he used to be a avvid ridder but since he got sick and his bike has been broke he has not ridden in a year...

you guys can pm me if you have any part or $$ to donate you can donate to
ev0lution_7@hotmail.com on paypal or just PM me if you want my address to donate parts... any help would be great i am donating $100 to this project.

Vic is really c000l guy and a retired Vet (USMC) he helps people out all the time and i am just trying to Pay- It - Forward

i know this is a honda sohc forum and i'm not really sure were to post this topic i did try with the harley guys but they were kinda prude :( i figured you guys might be up to helping a fellow motorcycle ridder (he did once own a cb550 and a 305 scrambler when he was younger and LOVES honda bikes but he totally is into his harley).

Not to sound ... creepy?.....

But what about getting a small loan and buying the bike off him, get him his money.
Then he could get the parts, you n him could fix it up.
He then could ride it 'till he can no more ride.
Once he (unfortunately) passes, you would be able to go get your bike, and keep it your house then, all fixed up already.

Other than that...
Have you contacted any local biker clubs?
I know the local biker organizations are quite well known for helping in situations like this.

Possibly even HD themselves? Who knows, they might kick him a new one of his choice. Just for the 5 seconds of press.

If this is really one of the wishes this man has for the last year of his life, there is someone (or group) that would literally love to help out. Make a Wish foundation(is that for children???)

Sorry, I have no HD parts, and I spent all the play money I had weeks ago.
Good luck though!
I've been told thats a blessing and a curse. You TRULY begin to enjoy life.
But you know it's really short what you have left. Fok it....  How about him getting a loan?
whatta they gonna do make a dead man pay?
:)

I was just at the XL forum and they gave Ev0 a ton of #$%*, more because his first post was the 'pay it forward' post, which is shady-looking, but they were real a$$holes about it.  Sorry, Ev0, I tried to tear them a new one in the best way I could, considering I'll still need the wankers' help on X's new sporty...

Soos might be spot on, but that's morbid.  then again, c'est la vie.

For 'cheap' but real good tires, check out the spitfire s11.  We just outfitted X's bike for $163 (incl. shipping) ...then it'll be more to mount/balance them, but fwiw, you can prob. run a 140/90- 16 on the rear and it's way easier to find than the hard to find and $$ 150/80-16 that cost us $83 or so.

Ev0-
with a year prognosis, is this cancer or...?  and if so what kind?  I hate to be an ass, but if you've only got a year, it's not like people often drop dead at 11 months and 29 days... this poor man has 4-6 months tops before he may be unable to ride altogether.  you may have it easier if you give him the tires off your 1200 and just get new ones yourself.  then he'd easily have a year of tread. already wore in, and you could just drop new rubbers on your ride (or ride on his if they don't suck too much)

oh, Ev0, if you don't go back, this is what I wrote (at) them for you:

Quote
I admit the way he put it sucked, but I actually am from the sohc4 forum too (was like "Oh, hey! it's ev0! wtf?")  I think we're doing ok helping him out on 'our' side, we've found him some lines and stuff. Don't worry about it.  If the CB guys have Harley parts, can find them, or assist any other way, they'll be more than willing to offload them. We're trying to accommodate, I've given him suggestions about the tire situation, and he has the brake lines, so now it's about gas, and I think we might have that covered.

To say 'no', or say you don't trust someone is one thing, but to be out and out rude is completely another.  It's disappointing.  I won't waste my time telling you 'blah blah, human decency, blah blah whatever' because it's just lost on some people.  I know with 11 posts I'm p:censoring people off too early in my time here, but it's like every time I try to go from the honda forum and the people there to the hd forums, and try to say that it's an unfair stereotype about y'all being cliquey jerks to anyone not obviously your own, you f:censoring go and prove me wrong.  I know not everyone is like that, and if the guy posted here like he posts on the honda forum, you'd have treated him more like family, but it was just friggin' rude, what you posted to him.  So, like I said, don't worry about it. We have him covered.  I guess you do meet the nicest people on a Honda.

I'm very close with someone who had cancer and was told they had only 18 months to live -- 34 months ago.

That person has been in remission for 18 months now.

Never underestimate the power of prayer and positive thinking.

Evo and Kitsune, I just read the thread on XLF and followed over here to check it out.
I just posted a thread here http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=43817.0 .

I'm sure once people on XLF can see that you're genuine, they'll help out any way they can - you got beaten up a bit because nobody knew you and you came on with a first post asking for money. People get suspicious about that sort of thing.

Cheers

Hey ev0 I can only offer good wishes and words to you and your buddy. I hope you can get his bike back on the road for some good rides and good memories.

It's really ace what you're doing for him and it's pretty heart warming. I had a friend pass recently and I only just found out last night because they live across the country, and I never got to go out and ride with them. Cherish the time you have, and it sounds like you're doing it in a great way. Good luck with getting the bike back on the road.

Sorry, I can be kind of protective when it comes to folks I know.  mlinder from the other thread was actually in a really nasty wreck and we pulled together for him, that's actually mostly where he knows me from, besides work at Paul's (community owned?) garage.

I'll restrain my natural, #$%*-like tendencies.  You seem like good folks, though, so I do truly apologize.

My guess is that people here on the SOHC4 forum expect similar treatment on other boards. This is the best community I have ever been part of. I'm sure the people at the XL forum are good folk for the most part, but expecting the same kind of support may be a little... er, optimistic.
I may be in a position to help a little bit in your friends situation next week, Ev0. Good luck.

no need to apologize really.  I am an A$$h@le . I'll be the 1st to admit it. I stand by what I said though. The way EVO came off seemed shady. Its a perception thing. I hope everything turns out ok it seems you all have his back.

The Folks on the xlforum are good peoples. I'd open my door to any of them.  It doesnt matter there what bike you ride. Many members have  SOHC's, triumphs, sportbikes, etc. I owned a CB750 my self  the issue had nothing to do with the type of bike owned. It was a trust thing more then anything. It would be as if this being my 1st post here  I asked the members of this forum to donate some money (not parts). and heres my paypal account. I think you would be cautious as well.

that said  "keep the shiny side up"

I didn't mention anything about peoples attitude having anything to do with the brand of bikes they own. I own non-hondas too. I was only commenting on this particular community being incredible. I understand being suspicious of a first post asking for money, though.

As far as keeping the shiny side up, I wish I had :P

I will agree Evo seems like a possible brimmer on first glance at this thread and his later reactions on the XL thread sure didnt help his case...from what i seen he basicly wore down to begging for the most part. Not a good tactic change. However....when it comes to Kit....good on you girl on your attempts to save the situation at the risk of finding mud in your eye later. I can see the XL group eventually trusting kit if she hangs around there long enough. But Evo...man you seriously need to think about how you approach a situation such as this...Im actually agreeing with a lot of the guys on the XL forum here. Your first post being this Pay it Forward thread on there? Thats just like taking a big stick and poking a hornets nest. What you should have done is this...taken the time to post a few different things on there prior such as an intro like you would on here...perhaps given them more info so they could feel that they could trust you. Basically build up a foundation of trust with your fellow forum members then you have a lil more chance of being able to get the help you are looking for.

Sorry guys if i seem like im being a lil harsh on Evo here but those of you who know me and have been around to see the majority of my posts i probably tend to come off as another El Cheepo at times....straight to the point...and sometimes going straight to the throat...

No, DR, I agree with you.  that's one of the first things I said, even while I was trying to help Ev0 out.  I think he's probably going to have to find another forum.  I'm not even sure if I can hang around there anymore.  It doesn't help that I didn't really 'take the high road' and forgo the name-calling, either, but it felt like a whole friggin' forum against me.  Not fun.  I think we should probably put some of that behind us and consider options for helping Ev0, if that's going to be possible.  I don't think anyone truly has money to spare (X and I are in the hole pretty far for our new Sporty, but it's worth it, she doesn't have to worry about the Savage again)

He's got the brake lines, we can figure out tires, gas might be hardest, but he might want to consider ARCO (a derivative of BP) because they have gas cards and stuff you can get decent deals on.  My parents used that when they road tripped out to OR from WI to see us this past summer.

I do want to +1 one of the guys from the XL forum, in that your primary concern for your friend, Ev0, should be proper food/water/shelter, help him fix up his shack, keep it warm, keep him well supplied, etc. Cold, dry air is going to be harsh on his lungs. He's probably on Oxygen (and that's expensive by the tank, especially if he's on SSI)  see what Blue cross, blue shield might do for him, as well as vet benefits at a VA hospital near you, if his family can't be there for him.  If he has heat just fine in his shack, a humidifier might be a good idea.  Lung problems are really hard to deal with medically.  Help him take care of himself, and help him get on the road, even for real short trips.

I wish I could help more...
