2.5" can anyone?
« on: November 24, 2008, 08:59:38 AM »
My 500 cam with an aftermarket 4-1 exhaust.  I love the headers but the plain jane mufflers got to go I think.  My header has a 2.5 inch exit so I was hoping someone on here might know of a more racing styled can that would fit over that large opening.

I think that's the one that I have actually.  I don't like the look of the megaphone, it's too classic looking.  I'm looking for something that is sportier and more race inspired.

Ya actually I did that for a while...  My grandma said she could hear me turning onto streets four miles away.  Might have been ok but I had to be to work at 6 every morning and defiantly woke up everyone I drove past...  Cops caught on to that one real quick...

yea? you wouldnt have a sound clip would you? i have no idea what its going to sound like i havent heard this thing run. i went on you tube but there isnt a whole lot just a few. i ran my r6 for about a week off the collector and i lovvved the sound but lost tons of power in the uper half of my rpms so i put the pipe back on. i could care less about how loud it is. my harley has rumble stick cams and straight pipes, i doubt it will be louder than that

Ok, so I've decided to go with a can from a newer bike and fabricate a midpipe.  So what I am wondering is that since all of you guys have a bigger garage of parts than myself I am wondering if anyone has a pipe their looking to get off their hands.  The bike is a 73' 500 with a 605 kit.  I have a 4-1 header and am looking for a sport looking exhaust.  If anyone has a shorter chrome can they can spare I might be interested.

I found this on eBay...

I think if I make up a custom midpipe it could work pretty good.  But I would like some better advice about it first if anyone could give me any.

Ok, I bought the pipe.  I figure can't go wrong for 40 bucks...  so I figure on drilling out the rivets holding the can on the pipe then going to a muffler shop and having a mid pipe made up and riveted on.  The motor should be back together this week so then I can start mocking up how I want the pipe to sit.
