Front indicator always on
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:54:09 AM »
Dear reader,

I usually prefer to dig into issue until I find a solution, but this time I use a "lifeline"  :   )

I have a cb400f 77 and after replacing the relay now all my indicators blink perfectly. The only odd thing now,
is the front right indicator stays on all the time. So, as Inspector Clouseau, I followed the wires from the blinker to the
headlight and disconnecting one of the two, the light goes off now but it still blinks when the switch is activated.

Do you think my left handlebar switch needs more love? (I have already showered it with wd40). Or something funny
inside the headlight case is still happening?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you,

Alberto

does the new relay have a running lights function and it's this wire you are disconnecting ?

Assuming you have a stock unmolested bike...  ::)

The front sigs are also run lights with two element bulbs.  The run filament is turned off when the flash element is selected.

The front bulb sockets have 3 connections; one for each element and, of course, a frame "ground" return.
As a guess, I would ensure that, on your bike, the bulb socket attaches electrically to the wire harness green wires.

Good question. What do you mean exactly with running lights function?

Thank you for taking the time.... I feel less alone out there :  )

Not sure about the 400f, but the '77 550k (US model) the front amber lights burn steady with the key in the 2nd position clock-wise from tree lock.  As TT stated, the filament for the running light turns off when the blinker function is activated.

The real question is not why is the right stays ON, but rather, why is the left running light OFF?

So,

to the cb400f experts, are the front (and back as well) indicator lights supposed to stay when the bike is running?

Who can reply to this?

Thank you guys  :)

US model bikes had front running lights that came on with the headlight. The rears were turn sigs only, as amber lenses are not legal in most states facing rearward, except for signaling.

Thank you TwoTired,

I guess I have now to figure out why as stated previously by "OldSchool_IsCool" the left front one is off....I guess I will have to check
the wiring for the left again  :  )
