don't know what i'm gonna do about this.
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:56:28 PM »
here's the skinny on this situation. my other ride is a 89 s10 blazer, pretty nice really, factory 2wd 2 door, lowered almost 3inches front and rear, with (best part here, you ready for this) an l98(sb corvette engine 355ci stock) and a turbo 700 trans under the hood. spent 2 years building this, and drove it for about 6 months. then the transmition went out(never buy one from the junk yard for a hot rod engine). anyway i get this call from my landlord tonight and he's pist, seems he got ticked for my blazer being parked here with expired tags. he have me till the fifth to fix it or move it, then he's gonna have it towed away. i don't have another trans to put in it, and i don't have anywhere i can move it too. i've invested close to 10k into this blazer over the last three years rebuilding everything from the engine and fuel injection to the one off suspention setup and the hand fabricated rear deflector. i'm not asking for a hand out(but if someone had a transmition lying around..)

Why did they ticket your landlord? Here they ticket the car, then post a tow order.

Is it driveable? At all I mean??

Where do you store your bike(s)?

Could you get some friends to push it for you if it isn't??

You could park it in the lawn?? lol sorry...

I parked my old truck in a field owned by a friend/relative until I could get her running again. Maybe that?

Sorry that's all I got so late at night.  :-[ :'( :-[ :'(

Have you got a friend who can mind it for you at his/her place mate? Must be someone with a back yard or a garage with some space?

I hope it works out for you, 10K is a lot to lose for the sake of a tranny. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

If you renewed the tags, would they leave it alone, would this satisfy your landlord while you weighed options?

if its off the street then expired tags are legal... tell your landlord to shove it.

if you'd rather take a more civilized approach... get a car cover.

he really has no right though... unless he was ticketed.

i have a turbo 350 that i've been thinking about swapping in. the biggest mod with that would be a longer drive shaft(costs money that i just don't have right now) my blazer runs awesome right now, however the primary pump in the trans is shot witch means no gears at all. i've been trying to talk my step father in law into letting me store it over there again, but he's not having any of it. i've only been in ogden for a couple months now, so i don't have many friends here. i was laid off from my job back in august and haven't had much finding a well paying job, i've been doing temp jobs, but those don't pay too well. then my wife was laid off from her job last month too, she was the one really bringin home the bacon with her fancy goverment job. so right now i just don't have the money to do anything about this. i hope i don't have to watch it go down the road, but i think that's what's probably gonna happen. thanks for your guys's thoughts. it really makes of feel better

Fill us in on the laws there I guess. Is the blazer in the street? If not, check with the police about it. You may find your landlord is really a slumlord and is just being an assshat. Maybe ask him to actually SHOW you the ticket. he might just want it gone cause he does not want it there and is trying to scare you into doing what he wants.

the blazer is parked in the gravel driveway. according to the laws here i could keep it here for an extended period if it was on a hard surface, such as concrete, and covered with a tarp. or better yet inside a garage. it's only been here for about two months, but my neighbor has two honda cars that've been sitting out there for a couple years(that's where the problem came from i think) i've seen the ticket and my land lord is a slum lord too. the ticket forem't target my blazer specificaly, it just says excessive unlicenced vehicles along with other trash. i think if the blazer was the only one out there i could appeal to the city, but with those others out there too they won't even hear my case

Renew the plates.

Problem solved - it's perfectly legal, the ticket would go away, landlord would have no right to tow anything.  Not sure what rights he has to do such stuff anyway.  What does your rental contract say?  Does it specify how many vehicles you may or may not keep onsite?

Or, sell it.  If you're struggling to make ends meet, you don't need to have 10K tied up in such an albatross hanging around yer neck anyway...

I can see why he would not want to sell. With a bad tranny, 5000 would be hard to get for it. With money that tight, tags might not be an option. Maybe you have a friend or family member that might loan you enough to get tags?

in order to get tags i've got to get it inspected, can't do that without taking it in. as for selling it, i've had people ask about it, and with a bad tranz i'd be lucky to get 500 out of it. i've invested that in gaskets alone.

now is the time man, just bite the bullet get a shop to tow it in and get the tranny put in while you have a coffee, or find a shop you can rent.  I was going to say just get a new plate tag then tell your landlord its licensed and to shuv it. OR if you feel like being a little daring and somewhat illegal in your ventures just steal someone else's sticker. Slap it on there until you have the time and cash. Maybe off a bike if its winter yet?  :D lol

Just so I understand; don't you have to renew the reg first before the inspection? At least it would buy you time. I've been in similar situations as you and sympathize. Even with a good transmission I doubt you'd get 10K. It's just the nature of special interest vehicles unless it was a Corvette or if you got lucky enough to find someone with a hardon for hot rod trucks.

They're out there but hot rods are $$ sponges and are hard to sell for even close to what we put into them. Then, there's the busted trans... eldar is right on there. Then, factor in the Recession.

When things are dire financially there's no bullet to bite.

Your land lord is a POS. His junks sit around, he must have some idea of your $$ situation, yet he busts you b@lls about your S-10?

It's times like this the saying 'you meet the nicest people on a Honda' can quickly become 'you meet the nicest people on a Honda until you eff them over then about 800 of their buddies comes by to give you an attitude adjustment, take that ultimatum of yours and shove it where the sun don't shine followed by a 700R transmission enema.'

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

here in utah you gotta do inspection befor you can get that sticker. i'd gladly sell my bike(i have only one) if it would mean i could finish my blazer project. the blazer has been my dream project since i bought it way back in 91. i've built and sold two other hot rods over the years. and i had my most recent finished one on ebay a couple months ago, but i never got enough to sell it with the recession and all. that one is parked at my step in laws garage for the winter. at least you guys cheer me up a bit. thank you all for that

sorry i don't have a camera. the bike is my 1980 650c nearly 37k miles. mostly stock. needs most all engine gaskits and o rings, and a new rear tire wouldn't be a bad idea. she runs great, starts easily and will idle just under 1k after warm. i'd part with her for 750 with a my heart breaking

Do you think you could just go to court and fight it?
I've been thru this same thing and all I had to do was
talk to a judge, explain that that nasty Corvair was a
"...valuable collectors car under restoration." I also
had a few recent receipts for parts to show I was
serious about getting it running. Being a Corvair, it
of course never did run.
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.
