lost in space
« on: December 04, 2008, 10:00:48 AM »
Hey guys I am looking at renting some space to work on bike/car/other toys. The plan is to get 5 or 6 friends to go in on a monthly payment for a section of a warehouse in town. if we have 1 car and lets say 6 bikes, a space for a fridge, couch or 2, and tools, how big do you think the space should be? my thought was 400ft2.
600ft2?
800ft2?

I haven't a clue.  But I will tell you to not try a public storage place.  Most all of them don't allow vehicles with oil/fuel.  A guy I know restores bikes in one, but he has to drain them first.  I't no big deal for him, as he only wants his work to look good, not run.

I like this idea and have thought about doing the same.  I've heard of people opening co-ops where all the members pay a fee and get time and use of machinery and tools.  I would worry about the insurance though.

That is sort of what I am looking to do. At what point would insurance need to come into play?

Insurance come in when a member is using some machinery who doesn't really know what he's doing, but has told you otherwise, looses a finger, or an eye, or maybe even his life, and he or his family come looking for "justice".

be careful who you pic to come in , they may decide to stop paying if times get tough
might not be a bad idea to put it in one name and let others pay you
definitely get insurance for fire and theft
