Is this worth $400?
« on: December 05, 2008, 01:39:43 PM »
Sorry, I have a CB500 K2 and love it, but I am looking to get another bike at some point so when I have to fix one I can ride the other. I found this:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=4992305&cat=144&lpid=

but know almost nothing about other bikes. Sadly I don't have the dineros to pick her up, so if another SOHC'er reads this and wants to take it, please feel free. I just see KZ's pop up periodically and wonder if they are good bikes. $400 seems like a decent deal for a minor fixer upper 750.  Are DOHC harder to work on that SOHC?

Thanks everyone who takes the time to read and respond to my curiousity.

Brandon

It's an ugly, slow bike. 750 twin. makes like 40 rwhp. I've heard they aren't as reliable as the inline 4's.
That being said, it might make a decent bobber. 400 bucks for a running bike is always good.

Look again.  That IS an inline-4.  Pretty speedy, too, I'll bet, even if you DON'T like the early 80s Oriental cruiser motif.

And, even in that extreme style, I don't think those are the OEM bars.  I don't think they came that tall.

Worth $400?  Easily.

Ah. I see kz750 LTD and think twin (these were made also.)

Yes, the 750 i4 makes pretty good power.
It's still ugly though.

Crap, wish I had the 4 bills. As far as the motif, I can always repaint it  ;D The pipes look shot, but maybe its all surface rust. Oh well. Maybe I will luck out and it will get relisted in the spring for less and I can pick her up then  :D

Thanks for the opinions guys. Sounds like the consensus is stay away from the early 80's twins for lack of hp, but the inline 4's are worth it.

Consensus?  Nahh, that's just Mark's opinion...   ;D   ;D

I LIKE those 750 twins!  But then, I'm not a high-horsepower junkie anyway.  And generally, I like the early 80s Jap cruiser styling.  I'm not a fan of the later 80's efforts, nor any Harley-clone-attempt whatsoever.  But, that's just me.   :)

Eh, I'm not looking to race, just haul my fat but from point a to point b  ;D Thanks both of you for the responses. Twin or Inline 4, I will keep my eyes open for a good deal on early Japanese bikes. They all seem to be pretty good.

Thanks,

Brandon

I want a 750 to graft the top end onto the kz650... with the right, cheap mods, I'd be looking at 75+ HP in a kz650... that would be sweet.
