Tire reccomendations for CB400F?
« on: March 27, 2017, 05:51:57 PM »
Looks like I've narrowed my choice between Avon AM26 and Continental Conti Go. Any words of advice or cautions? My driving style will be relatively mild. Not likely to exceed 75. Riding in the rain is not going to happen (we are talking Phoenix, AZ). Handling & stopping are most important. I'm old and mortal  ;)

I have Avn and Continental and both are great tires.  I recently found out Continentals are now made in Korea and was disappointed to hear that (they had previously been manufactured in Germany)

I have an Avon AM26 Roadrider on the back and a ContiGo on the front and they both work good together;I think they're both a nice performing tire.I had an IRC NR21 on the back and it wears out fast but the Avon lasts much longer.

The ContiGo is a good handling, durable tire;I bought one from a place out in CA.
Do you know about a supplier in the US ?

Can't beat AM26s on a 400f.  Tehy like slightly higher pressures than some tyres, try about 34psi rear and 30 front.

Best deal I've found so far is at http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com. I tried to buy local but they wanted $115 more! :-[

Hmm... Looks like a redirect to VigLink occurs. This is because of something arranged with this list owner. My link is correct. Suggest you opt out by clicking the "Why am I seeing this" link. Anyway it looks like motorcycle-superstore still beats out americanmototire by about $10.  :)

Plus one for the Avon Roadriders. I put them on my 350F and it transformed it. I bought it with some Kenda tire, which were wider than stock as well. Putting the proper, skinnier size tire on made it handle so much better. And the Avon rubber is super grippy. I'll be putting the same tires on my 750 when the Bridgestone BT45's wear out.

One thing I've noticed is that the steering on the 400F feels "heavy" compared to my SL350. Not bad, just heavy at relatively slow speeds around the block. U-turns are noticeably different. I'd say the SL350 is light & easy & the 400F heavy & harder. Not too hard but very noticeably different. Might be the nature of a 400F or it might be the 20 year old tires. I haven't even put 1/4 of a mile on it yet so what do I know. Any 400F owners agree?

The 400 does have a higher gvwr than the 350.

But they're nowhere near as heavy as 750's or even "modern" supersport bikes.

Have the Avon Roadriders that I got from 4wheelonline. The tires are good for riding long distances. Great grip on wet and dry roads.
