k7-8s came with offset rearspacers in the rearhub  due to the big 630 chain.think you have to change the front sprocket also,,,,i was going to put an earlier wheel on my k8 but i opted for the wider k8 stock rim,,i think cyclexchange sells the  smaller k6 hub spacer you need

The K6 would have been an 18" while the K8 is 17".

I've got the same problem and didn't even know it was going to be a problem untill I read this post. :o I've got a K5 with a set of Lesters on it that I wanted to put on my K8 and take the spoke wheels off the K8 and put them on the K5. How much of a headache am I going to have? ???

I think you're in good shape assuming they are both K's (both drums).  As mentioned above, Cyclexchange.net can take care of you if you're in trouble.  Take a look at this pic (lifted from Cyclexchange.net - sorry Ken  ;)): The one on the right is K7/K8.  All you need to do is switch these parts on the wheels (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here).  The spacer is also different - keep the long one with K7/K8 and short one with the K5.

Ok, old topic revived.

I am looking at buying a K4 wheel for my K8.  Like the 18" wheel better than the stock 17".

So, if i want to fit an early model wheel on a K8 it will bolt right up using the K8 sprocket carrier?  Any shimming spacers need etc?  Anybody actually done this?

Please advise.
