« on: December 06, 2008, 08:14:07 AM »
Hello

just picked up this 1978 750k and the gas tank on it seem's weird shaped compared to others in the same year. the sides seem to stick out farther. and ideas if it isn't what its off of.
thanx from wizzy

That is the proper tank for 77-78 K models. F would be different. Pre-77 K & F different also...

Hey wizzy, fear not....like the boys have said, it is indeed a 77-78 K tank.

Just like mine  ;)

thanx's gents. good news that it is the right one, now will a pre-77 tank fit.  because the width of this stock tank hinders my turn radius because of the clubman bars. i figure the earlier tanks seem slimmer and would improve turning.

I put a 76' tank on a 1978 CB 750...it fits perfectly. However if you use the stock 78 seat there will be a 1-2" gap between the seat and tank...I believe also, that depending on year of pre 77/78 tank the petcock side can vary

edit: here's the bike with the old.....and now original tank. In the first pic you can clearly see the gap...

thank you for the info, seat gap will not be an issue because I will run a aftermarket cafe seat. (yours looks awesome what does the badge say on the side.)

Looks like the Guliari-style seat that have been coming up quite often lately. Very nice shape and (from what I've read) a good easy fit. Plug and play. It says "750 Four" on the side.
