Creeping in gear at a stop
« on: September 27, 2005, 01:06:57 PM »
Hi, Just wondered if you had any input on my 750 creeping, as I am stopped at a light, etc. The bike is running fine in gear with the clutch in... but I feel it pulling or creeping forward as I sit and wait. I have the cable adjusted so it starts to grab about 3/4's of the way out... Is this some sort of adjustment issue and will this prematurely wear out my clutch? Any advice would be great!

Cheers! Mike

Probably just a clutch adjustment problem. There's a clutch ramp adjustment on the engine as well, set it according to the manual. Then set the cable adjusters for about 1/2 inch free play at the bar end - the first 1/2 inch should be fairly loose as it is only pulling against the cable return spring in the engine, then it gets harder as you start to move the actual clutch mechanism.
Don't look deeper until it's adjusted correctly. Warped clutch plates can cause the same problem, a notched basket too.
