This whole deal is a little embarassing. I have the english magazine which is laid out a little differently. However jpeg & tiff is more than I can understand, when I scanned the thing it really loses clarity.

Glenn if you can walk an mostly computer illiterate cat through what you need, I'll give it a go!

On my Canon scanner, I can specify an image quality of 600 dpi and save it as an image with a type of jpeg or tiff - both pretty standard fare for any scanner software.  If those aren't available, anything other than PDF should work.

The key is the image quality and 600dpi or better works best.

The files will end up being pretty big, but my email should handle them.

Hope that is enough to get you going.

Brent, I find that by using Adobe and a PDF format, I can get high-resulution scans without using a lot of file space. 2 pages in perfect clarity will normally fit in less than 1 mb of file space. These pages are from an article I wrote some years ago and the first ones were scanned using PDF and the 2nd ones by much larger jpegs to a website for public use -these use Adobe 8.

The only problem I have with pdf format is that the free OCR application I have can't read it.  It does work better for articles that are put online for download.

I believe the PDF text can be cut and pasted into a translator, if that's what the final objective is.
