No, I thought the same thing. My vin motor is FE as well and it is an F3 motor. You have an F motor on your bike.

In some ways the F3 motor is good news. It has the most power of the SOHC 4's, but can experience valve guide wear.

Sometimes PO's have replaced the valve guides, and sometimes not...

I have an F3 and can tell you the motors are great with that exception.

A little update... The 78 cush hub came in last night so I will be able to run the spoke rear rim.

I will probably make it a roller here in a day or two so that I can move it to the back of the garage while im away for a couple weeks. I will be busting the top end open as soon as I get home. More pictures to come.

Well here is how she sits. The project is going to be on hold for about the next 2 weeks while I'm on Christmas break. I did a quick spray on the tank just to cover up the green and red. The tank and seat will most likely be done in a semi flat material. And the rims for the time being will be done in all black. As time goes on and money becomes available, I will add better looking parts. Like stainless spokes and powder coat the hub and outer rim. I wanted to get it looking better than what it was and I have pretty much accomplished that. Now I can add pieces and upgrade things over time. I was looking at the enamel that is on the bike and I'm thinking that its not going to last too long. Tell me what you guys think.

Ignore the nasty rims and tires.

I appreciate the opinion. I just don't see this being a green bike. unfortunately I'm without my compressor and my gun so it will be something easy to apply.

one thing I would like your opinions on is the color for the motor. My initial thoughts and I'm still leaning this way is to do a black motor (after all it is an F3 motor) brush the fin tips so the aluminum is showing, do the valve cover in silver since I'm without my buffing wheel. the clutch cover and ignition cover in chrome, and the shifter cover, alternator cover in silver to break up the black. What do you all think? It will be somewhat like this.

nope, no fairings for me. picked up a new MC, engine gasket kit, new cush drive, ordering carb kits today and stainless braided brake lines when i get back and can measure. possibly ordering clip ons today as well. ill be back in town around monday and will probably start working again on tues.

well guys, im back at my apartment and going strong on the build. here are some recent photos from tonight.

Im struggling with getting the cylinders off. however, they look to be in really good condition.

top end is completely dissassembled. the top ring in cylinder 1 is within spec. .48mm max is .6mm. cylinders look great i will be cleaning everything up and getting it ready to put back together tomorrow. anyone have any tips on what i should look out for while putting it back together?

Replace the pucks, replace the pucks, replace the pucks, that is my single piece of advice it is cheap, easy, and will keep you from having to tear it down again when you notice you have oil leaking out of an unidentified area.

they will be replaced along with every other gasket in the top end. Im trying to figure out if it is safe to soak a fully assembled head or not. anyone know of a safe way of soaking one?

well guys, i have the motor opened up and the cylinders and the head glass bead blasted. I decided that the time trying to get the paint out of all the fins was not worth it. here are a couple pictures of where im at. and if someone reads this that knows about top end gasket and o-ring stuff go check out my help me thread on the sohc4 tab.....
