Transcontinental road races.
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:42:38 PM »
These races absolutely fascinate me and while searching around about the transcontinental road races in the 70's and 80's I came across This stuff about George Egloff, who raced in one of the Cannonball runs and four U.S. Express runs. On a Honda CBX and on a Suzuki GS850. For those that don't know thats New York to California in at most 48 hours. He also tied and another time won the I.B.A. run thats held every 2 years which at the time was 11,000 miles in 11 days with a checkpoint every 24 hours. All this on a motorcycle, solo. For some reason I cant seem to find much information on him or the bikes but a few photos. I love this kind of stuff. If anyone knows of any similar stuff lets hear it!

   This pretty much sums it up.   76' CB592 cafe. 69 750 project, 03 CBR954, 75 750 super sport.

Read a good story about a transcontinental trip by car in 1903.
Book was "Horatio's Drive". True story--mostly told with quotes from Horatio himself.
Made you want to be there to help out !

Gary Eagan was all set to try and set the Cannonball record this year but had a snafu of some sort.
He set the record from Alaska to Key West some years back.
