From an earlier post about the 8 lbs if you want to get rid of the weight and you aren't using electric start...  pull the starter motor and relay, that right there is about 8 lbs.  using a smaller battery will then save you a couple more.  just a thought.

I plan on ditching the starter and any related parts. I would sure like to lose most of the alternator weight as well, especially spinning weight.

Ok,.. I see, its one looooong page and the links are just bookmarks to a spot on the page. At the very bottom they show an "exposed" charging system with no more details but it just looks propped together. I'll have to call them??

Note:
Honda's 3 phase field excited charging will create a magnetic pull when the regulator tells it.
This magnetic pull can reduce horsepower ( sometimes 2 horsepower )
Reduced rotating weight and less magnetic pull makes the Cycle X charging system the best choice.

Yeah, I found it all, it looks good but pricey. I'll see if they will sell just the critical parts and I'll machine the adapters for a cb550? I would like to make a nice low profile cover too.

I may also start buying old rotors off ebay till I find one that fits the crank, and then get the matching stator? I suspect its just cb350 parts or something similar??

I dont know. I thought there was someone on this site that lived close to Ken. Maybe they can check it out sometime or already have. I agree, it is pricy but seems like it might be a good swap to do. besides, when you look at the money put into motors, $500 is not that much!

Yeah, I shouldn't have griped, its not bad considering you get the parts and machine work. Unfortunately I'm trying to fit it onto a 550

Does anyone know if the crank taper is the same for 750/550?? Maybe at least they're lightened rotor will fit?

Sure wish I still worked at a dealership, it was handy being able to check compatibilty of parts. I wouldn't be surprised if many other rotors will fit our cranks??

I would have to go with paul but maybe something can be fabed up that would fit. I don't have the 550 and so I cant say.

Even if the taper matches (and it seems really close) the 750 shaft OD is so much larger than the 550

Well if the new system is held on by a bolt, it may be possible to make a bushing that will allow things to work. Always worth checking especially for the weak 500/550 system. Even the 750 could use a boost sometimes.

If you wish to try a rotor that has a larger taper, it is possible to make sleeve to adapt them.I have done it for balljoints & steering parts.
 Also you could bore a new taper into a rotor that has a smaller hole.
