VVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM
« on: September 27, 2005, 07:54:43 PM »
Today I was monkeying around on my 750 and got it to start. Hot damn that thing is loud!
My wife came out and asked "what the hell was that."
Can't do much to it until more money comes in, but now I know I can move forward on it.
So are these bikes typically loud? I have not seen too many around my area
I farted and made my son cry.

Did you have any mufflers on it?
 ;D

Now seriously, as you know there are several styles and generations of standard (OEM) exhaust. I don't think that any of the OEM exhaust systems would be considered loud.

What type of exhaust do you have on the bike? OEM or aftermarket? What condition is it in? Any mods to the system (like cut off mufflers or missing baffles)? Those can get pretty loud as can things like drag pipes.

Ya gotta tell us more!!!!!

Just remember that if that bike's been sitting for a long time you should change the oil and filter before you run it again, if you don't, it'll suddenly go very quiet! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It's a 73 cb 750 with stock 4 into 4 exhaust In good shape only one blister on one pipe but no holes I see what looks like a circular diffuser towards the end but inside the pipes.
The baffles appear to be inside, thats all I can figure for now, someone before me must have punched the exhaust. I mean it when I say this thing sounds scary, as loud as some of the Harleys that fart around here, I even called My buddy that Rides a harley while I had him on the phone I kicked it over He laughed and and said"thats fu@#$%* loud".
I don't plan on firing it up until an oil change and carb rebuild done, and the electrical gets squared away.
I am not too worried about the noise bugging the neighbors, where I live there seems to be a high concentration of motorcycles in my neighborhood in the mix are two Ducatis that are loud as hell and up the road seems to be a retirement community of hells angels and outlaws(buttloads of Harleys)

I recently took the race pipes off my 400/4 to clean up and repaint then decided to start the bike up with just the 4-to-1 installed, not the muffler.  LOUD.  Sounds like a freakin' freight train when I pull into the parking garage at work or ride under a bridge...  Thinking about just finding a short polished tip for it then leaving it as is.

 8) I think the sound is good. I didn't really notice that I was missing the baffles/diffusers until I took it for inspection. One of those "ah-hah" moments when I realized my bike didn't have something that everyone else's did!

??? I searched the archives but couldn't find a good answer. Do the diffusers affect performance at all, or is it just loud noise that is the result? I'm not sure I am so keen on putting them back in, unless there are other issues involved.
