With their poor showing last year I'm not surprised.

Honda left the AMA board in February over a dispute involving some rule changes - something about the approval of the Buell XBRR for Formula Xtreme competition.

Honda cited the economy which is what they said about their withdrawal from Formula 1 auto racing.  Interesting developments for a company whose head started with the company because of their racing program.

It's sad, but AMA roadracing is pretty much dead.  I've heard nothing about Factory Suzuki competing in 2009 either.  AMA sold the series to Daytona Motorsports Group earlier in the year, and they tried to really shake things up with the rules like Glenn said.  The heads of all the big factory racing teams were all considering pulling out for a while.

The entire series has been on the decline as far as participation and spectators for the last few years.  The grandstands looked more like a club race than a professional series.  That's a sad thing as I remember the late 90's when AMA Superbikes had some of the world's best competing (Anthony Gobert, Bayliss, Corser, B. Bostrom and Duhamel in his prime, etc...)  Suzuki finishing 1-2 for the last 150 races didn't help draw viewers I guess.

Honda probably decided to focus on World Superbike where there is more exposure there anyway.  That should be an awesome spectacle in 2009.  Ben Spies will make a huge impact, Haga is now on the 1098 Ducati, Biaggi on the V4 Aprilia, and BMW has jumped in with both feet too.  As much as I like MotoGP it has turned into a lot of parade laps (maybe the spec tires will help in '09).  WSB is really the best series going for top-shelf riders, equipment and close racing.  I just wish they had more US rounds...I think there's just one next year at that new track in Utah.

And with the new revolutionary company Motoczysz re-tooling a new bike after they changed the cc requirements right after their first prototypes started circuit testing, and I can see why.

Look at their web site:
