It took a while to find what I got and took a bit of a drive to go get it.  That guy in Houston always has a Cb750 there, it is usually the same one.  I think his prices are a bit steep, even for Texas.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Yikes thems NZ prices almost, and I'd be a bit careful cornering on the right hand side if I was the buyer! ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Are you dead set on a 750?  I see 500/ 500's on craigslist from time to time.  There was one for $450 a few weeks ago that I almost jumped on just to flip.  Wife didn't like the idea.  LOL

I dont know what looks cooler, the custom golf ball dent which looks well placed with a 4 iron or the coat hanger exhaust mount? Both are sure to drive up value.

K frame, 77-78F motor with not bolted on carbs, cheap exhaust not even bolt on anywhere, 1969-1971 tank, K3 and earlier signals.....The bike is a bitsa.

There is $1500 worth of parts there but a sub $1000 bike as a whole.

Oh there are lots of beater CB 750's in the DFW area. However if your only source to finding them is what shows up on local CL, then your missing out.

I must be missing these things, I have not ever seen a 500/550 on Dallas Craigslist (not to say that there have not been) and rarley see a 750 on it.

Just drive 4-5 hours south (depending on how fast you drive ;) ) and you can have two decent ones for $2500.  I'd pick em up if had the extra cash right now.

Sounds like i am missing out , Where are you finding these deals?  I already have a 750 and another 750 parts bike< but hey you cant go wrong with adding another to the stable  ;D.  Do any of you North Texas CB riders ever get together for rides or anything?

There was some conversation related to that recently but that is where it ended.  Someone has a hanger out by Hurst or Euless I think that was talking about one there.

Probably every day I check CL about 5 or 6 times

I have a bookmark for San Antonio which is http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/mcy/ and takes me straight to the bikes.  Then I just replace 'sanantonio' in the url with all the major cities in Texas and sometimes smaller ones.  Sure I could create 20 favorites for all the cities but that gets too clutered with all my other motorcycle links.

I bought my first CB up by you in Rockwall........found it on CL ;D  Probably paid too much for it too but I just fell in love with it.

Ok. I'm going to give up the secret!  My statement " If you your aquisition of old motorcycles is dependent upon what shows up on CL or Ebay, then your missing out."

The thought is based upon this fact. There are hundreds of old motorcycles sitting in garages, sheds, barns, back yards etc. owned by people who may or may not be motorcycle enthusiast. So generally what I'm looking for is people who have these things. In their world it's just an old beater, rusted motorcycle, with no real value. In my world I have a much different perspective.

Ok now listen up.. This is the important part!

If you go onto CL and post an ad under Motorcyles.......

Cash for that old beater motorcyle. Your most likely gonna get flagged... I learned early on this is not a bad thing.
Fact anyone who might contact you from seeing your request from CL motorcycles probably knows the value of the bike and thinks it's made of gold anyway.

So want you do is post CL ad's in none motorcycle catagories.  Wanted, Barter, RV etc...

My ads might read like this.

Cash for that old rusted motorcycle sitting in your garage or back yard. $500.00

Two points to consider here. .....
1. I'm looking for the person is isn't really a motorcycle person. They just happen to have the old beater.
2. The $500.00 is meaningless. It's merely a lure put in $1000.00 for a better lure.

Tip..... Don't only post ads in your local city.

I do it in Waco, Abeline, Tyler, Austin, Witchita falls etc...

You will get many responses. Most of which are none interesting 80's and 90's junk. Occasionally you hit the jackpot.

1965 Honda Super 90

Numerous 1970's Honda CB 125's

1968 Yamaha YCS1 180CC..... I drove to Abeline to get this. Pay $50.00 bucks....  Invested $400.00  Spit and polish and sold to a guy in Washington state for $1800.00

Waco 1974 Faboulous original condition Honda CB 100... Payed $400.00 without a title. Sold for $1600.00

Witchita Falls. Payed $300.00 for a excellent CB 750 A. #$%* and shine. Sold for $1400.00

Denton  $800.00 for a 1985 Yamaha RZ 350.... I'll never sell this one. It's just too good.

THen of course I've come into many CB 750's and 550's, CB 400 this way. I almost never pay more than $400.00. It all depends on the circumstances.

I only pass this tip along, because I'm not really interested in large displacement old Honda's anymore.

WOW Bodain!  That is awesome advice.  I might try that next time I have some extra dough laying around.  I think the next bike I might try for is something like a 84-86 Nighthawk 700sc or an early 80s GPZ.  They'll never be as cool as the OLD Hondas but they were two bikes I loved as a kid.  I'm sure there are plenty of those in garages and sheds by now too.

Thats awesome advice Bodain! I'll have to give that a try.  I actually had a friend call me and said he saw "some old looking honda motorcycle"  sitting in some ladies backyard the other day, so I may swing by there this weekend and see what thats all about, who knows maybe a great find.  Thanks again for the tip!  If anyone ever wants to meet up and go ride I'm definitely down for whatever.

$1500  :o

People truly are out of their minds. I picked up my bike for $500 the guy was looking for $950. The thing with the bike I picked up is I knew most of the bike was NOT going to be used again. I knew that the frame, motor, triple, and rims would be about the only thing I was going to use. I found a bike that was a barn find and was rusty, cruddy, ugly, K&Q seat..... but it ran. Whalla I found my perfect candidate. I sold off a few things and all the sudden I only paid about $350 for the bike.

Now mind you I will be dumping quite a few bucks into the bike, but I knew what I was wanting (general plan) for before I started looking.

BTW I found my bike on C.L. Chicago. I drove about an hour and a half to get it, but I am completely obsessed with it now. The drive was well worth it.
New to the game.
