South Carolina to Denver and Back Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:20:15 PM »
Alright last January my best friend of 14 years moved to Denver from Charleston SC.  We drove a 35ft truck pulling an Accord on a trailer all the way out there while his wife and her sister followed us in the Envoy with the dogs.  Not a bad trip over all.  He picked me up in Spartanburg on the way through and we hit the road.  We made it to St Louis, MO the first night, of course he and I wanted to keep going but the girls wanted to stop for the night.  Anyway we go going the next morning and go to Kansas City.  it was raining like hell going through the city, once on the western side as we were getting out back to the countryside it turned into snow flurries.  Not a big deal except for the fact that the two women in the Envoy had been raised in Charleston SC and had never driven in the snow before.  We kept going and it kept getting worse.  About two hours later I went over a bridge and go a little squirrley in the truck so i looke din the sideview just in time to catch the Envoy sliding off the road into the median at about 55mph.  I had to keep going to get to the top of the next hill or I was never going to get that truck going again.  Got to the top of the hill, they called on the cell a little in shock.  I give his wife credit thought, she got it out of the median and back on the road without trouble, made it to the top of the hill where I got in the Envoy and began driving because her and her sister's nerves where a bit shot.  This is where the trip went south.  I am stuck in Kansas in the middle of nowhere with his sister in law who doesnt know how to shut the ...... up.  She is a bit large in stature and the whole time I am in the car she is talking about how she is going to loose weight and every time we stop to eat she is eating everything.....and I mean everyhting with Ranch Dressing (I call it Carolina Caviar).  I thought I was going to kill myself.  We finally had to stop in the middle of Kansas because the road conditions got bad.  We made it to Denver the next afternoon about 3pm.  Not bad.
Now for the kicker.  After only a year they are coming back to Charleston.  His wife con transfered plus more money so they are moving back.  The best part about this time is that our other good friend is going to be able to go (he was in South Africa last trip).  We are flying out on the 27th of January, dropping his wife off at the airport on the 31 and hitting the road...........this time without the sister in law.  Thank God. I am wanting to go south and take another route home but my friend just wants to get there.  I just want to see some more states that I haven't seen yet.  Hope a storm comes in the day before we leave so we have to go south on 25 to I-40 which is the way I want to go.  Anyway i know there isn't going to be alot of people to read this but I had to post it, I was bored.........Chris
