There is  a rubber tube in the battery box and it appears that the battery drain hose should go inside it. Is this true..

   Doesn't sound right to me.  Is there such a thing as a battery drain tube installed on the bike?  what is the tube connected to on the other end?

As far as I know there are two tubes poking up around the battery box. One is clear yellow and attaches to the gas tank overflow tube on one end and* routes back to the exhaust mounting bracket by the rear wheel *(77-78 750F). The other one is the battery breather tube which is black rubber, mine has a metal insert in the tip.

I rerouted mine so if the battery ever boiled the acid would not hit my pipes, (worth more than the bike)  it is longer than it was orig and stiffer.  it runs 1 inch from the rear tire so the acid will collect on the tire and sling off (hopefully) away from the 4 to4 pipes.
