Napoleon Bar End Mirrors
« on: October 27, 2008, 07:40:52 pm »
I bought a used set of Napoleon bar end mirrors off of eBay.  I've seen in photos that they should have a rubber sleeve on the mounts but neither of mine came with them.  There are two expansion sleeves that slide over the bolt.  One is a larger diameter than the other and slides over the outside of it.

Can anyone who has one of these mirrors tell me if the rubber mount is supposed to cover both sleeves or only the smaller one?  I test fit the larger sleeve in the end of the handlebar and it has barely any room between it and the inside surface of the bar.  Also, which end should the slotted part of the larger sleeve be on?

Look at this, do not know if it will help or not.  I searched Google so I could see what you were talking about.

I did come across that site while searching.  Unfortunately, I think those plugs are too thick to fit inside my handlebars.  I think I saw another site suggesting those plugs but both sites mentioned that the plugs are difficult to find.  If I can find someplace with some rubber hose of the right size, I may be able to leave the larger sleeve off.  I tried some heater hose from the auto parts store but it was just a bit too large on the outer diameter.

I couldn't see any diagram in your first post, but I took a look on google to see a few models.

Does what you have look like this:

Or this:

or this:

The first two are all set to go into the bike no problem. The last one is missing a rubber sleeve.

This is what is should look like:

You are missing the sleeve and the nut (both probably still inside the handle bars of the guy who sold them to you's bike).

If you have a good local hardware store, pull the bolt out and bring it in with you (along with the inside diameter (I.D.) of your handlebars) and see if they might have some rubber sleeves that will work for you.

Worth a shot anyway.

They did both come with a cone-shaped nut expands the sleeve when the bolt is tightened down.

I am looking for a set of non bar end version of napoleon (baren TT, APT-104). Does anobody know where to get them preferably in Europe (webshop or similar)? I know they are sold by bikemaster in US.

I quess I'll try those more common bar end mirrors in standard place like this:

The visiblity will not be so good, but better than without mirrors
(at least I'll see my elbows).
